Holy shite, that kid will be playing on the New Zealand all blacks one day.

Hell send him a scholy, he would be a beast in football as well.

hard to disagree. Football would probably translate well.

My conclusion after watching this video is that the US could probably win the Rugby championships if we put together a team of 6th and 7th round NFL rejects.

Maybe, if you could then put them through a rigorous 5 year training program.

Uh, no. Those are under 15's not 20 something year old draft picks.

And no you wouldn't be able to take guys who've never played a sport and beat guys who've play that sport professionally and have been doing so their whole lives. NFL players would not win the Rugby World Cup or even come close to winning it.

This reminds me, I've been wanting to start a thread about taking the rugby rule for extra points, kick it from wherever the try (touchdown) is made.

For those of you who don't know rugby, notice how Tyreese tries to run to the center of the field to pressure the ball down, it is because the extra point is kicked from the parallel point to that.

ETA: This would seriously make games even more entertaining.

Well you have to touch the ball down in rugby to score the try. If you cross the try line standing up its not a try until you touch it down. So the opposing team can tackle and "hold the ball up" which is keep it from touching the ground. At that point a 5 meter scrum is awarded to the attacking side.

Try's are only 5 points and the bonus kick is for 2 points.

The ball is placed parallel for the extra points and you are correct that it would make the American brand of football more exciting.

But I feel like that would do away with the always-useful goal line back corner fade, or the goal line out route.

It would be an interesting wrinkle. It wouldn't do away with those plays, it would just make the coaches (both on offense and defense) think extra hard about whether they absolutely need 7 points or whether they would be ok with 6.

On a play where the RB flies over the pylon with the ball outstretched to break the plane...now that is an extra point try that would be entertaining to watch.

That kid is FLYING.

He would kill it in American High School football.

I think the US could put together a ridiculous Rugby World Cup team if we got our best athletes to train for it for YEARS, but unless they did that, we'd get slaughtered.

Adrian Peterson would be a helluva rugby player though if he trained for it.

Thank you for being realistic. If USA rugby could pull our tier 1 athletes to rugby and train at it for years, we would be really good.

Ryan Moates comes out to my team's practice when he can and with this being his 2nd year, only plays on our 2nd team.
