Whatever happens with Marshall I already like the guy ....here he is in the throes of a tournament run and he has the gonads to say he is interested in talking with us

I hope we get Marshall just to watch the WSU fans melt the frick down. They sure are an arrogant bunch.

my take is that he is using this to get WSU to pony up now in a verbal agreement before the season is over with a promise from him that he wont talk to alabama. It is pure gamesmanship that is all perpetrated for a reason. If I was Bama and my HC talked like this way about a job opening while the season is not over I would be pissed

I think he wants out. He didn't shut down UCLA last year and he has certainly encouraged us this year. He may not want to be in Tuscaloosa but he certainly would like to know what we are willing to pay so he can know what the market will bear.

And what is WSU going to do about it, fire him?? They may not like it, but there's not much they can do about it and the guy isn't doing anything but addressing the elephant in the room (no pun intended). Marshall is holding all the cards and he knows it.

The ponying up argument will be moot if we are also including a big recruiting budget and total control. That is something that I think will be beyond WSU. There is one thing about Bama here of late, when we go big we in fact go all in big. Has worked with football and I would love to see it work with bball. I'm not even a bball guy.

Marshall has had better players.

Cleanthony Early
Fred Van Vleet
& Ron Baker

All 3 have been better than any guy Shaka has had

Those were all guys he developed though RTR...I will have to look it up but I can almost guarantee VCUs recruiting is equal if not better than his if nothing else just for the talent in the Va area alone

From reading the comments made by the CBB people I follow on twitter it sounds more like that is just how he is. He avoids the typical coach speak.

I seriously think Texas is going to be our biggest opposition, not WSU.

(I really like that Gregg Marshall doesn’t BS like most coaches. Of course he’ll listen to Bama’s big offer. And now he’s publicly said so.)

I don't care who the opposition is, Battle needs to prove he's a crazy SOB and make an offer Wichita State and even TEXAS won't offer Marshall at this stage. I'd salivate at $5 large.

I'd freaking LOVE for both my basketball teams' coaches to be named Gregg.

Start at 4.5 M and go up.
Cruting budget = UK
Total control of the BB program.
Jet plane for school and personal use.

For the right coach you can come up with crazy, but that package is not crazy for the coach you want that can take you to the head of the class.

Ps. If he can recruit to WSU he can recruit to UA. So he could get the players he needs .

Gregg Marshall is a perfect fit for Alabama. There isn't a better JUCO scouter or recruiter in the nation. That is an extremely underated skill. JUCO is great at filling immediate needs which is something we sucked at with Grant. I actually think both Jimmie and Kessens will both be solid to great big men for us. They just weren't immediately ready for High Major play. You could possibly say the same thing about Hall, though I'm hoping and thinking he'll be more ready than Jimmie was.

Gregg Marshall's name will be enough to attract some of the top HS recruits at a school like Bama, and with his JUCO recruiting helping fill the voids from year-to-year that should keep us a consistent tournament team talent-wise at the bare minimum. When you add in the fact that he's been a top 5 coach the last few years, we could finally break this mediocrity curse we've been under.

I have to say, regardless of whether we get him, I'm happy Battle and our boosters grew some stones and decided to just throw money at the top guy out there.

offer him 4.5 mil, big recruiting budget, control of the program similar to what saban has for football, and a coleman facilities facelift/update within a few years(needs to happen anyway if they are not going to start over). the basketball training facilities are already good, were updated in 2011 i think, but the venue needs help. we have money coming out the wazoo, and the sec network money has not even really ramped up yet

I can't listen to it now, but it looks like Parrish had another podcast where they discussed Marshall and Alabama again: LINK

I didn't listen but things seems to in a holding pattern at the moment. Doubt anything new has developed unless its on the Texas front.

This is my best guess on what has been going on behind the scenes:

- After Grant is fired, Battle and other UA associates, such as C.M., immediately start reaching out to their contacts to see what the temperature is of certain coaches across the country. They let it be known that UA will be going all-in on this hire.
- Two of the most prominant candidates, Marshall & Smart, let it be known through those backchannels that they will seriously consider the job, but UA has to bring a big offer.
- Judging from the many "insiders," Marshall was extremely receptive to the idea. Marshall's camp says he'll start talking as soon as his season is over.

Kind of obvious stuff but I think that's where we stand. Its clear we are waiting on Marshall. If we hadn't have gotten a pretty prositive response from his side, we wouldn't be wasting our time. We're obviously waiting for some reason. If Shaka was #1, I imagine we'd already made a move. There really hasn't been any kind of inside info this week so it does look like everyone is just waiting for WSU to lose. Not to bring up the Saban analogy but its similar in that when insiders said "We're just waiting for the Dolphins' season to end, then he'll come." back in 2006. When we started to get towards the end of December and there hadn't been any developments on the coaching search, you just knew it was that way for a reason.

@RyanBrownWJOX
Now on @JOXRoundtable, @GaryParrishCBS on Marshall: "I give Alabama a chance". If everything he wants is in place, "50/50, a coin flip"

Ryan Brown @RyanBrownWJOX
On @joxroundtable, @GaryParrishCBS thinks Dayton's Archie Miller would be next on the list "You've got people's attention" with this $.

If things fall through with Marshall, go with Miller. He's my first choice, but only because I never gave us any kind of chance with a coach of Marshall's caliber.
