@CoachTimHorton: Auburn RBU Stat - 16 times in last 60 years a @FootballAU rusher has led the #SEC in rushing! LSU = 7, AL, GA & FL = 6. WarEagle #AuburnFast

Haha, Tim Horton. What a troll.

Glad Gus Malzahn was able to lure him away from Arkansas.

That stat speaks more to rushing philosophy, where one running back gets a high % of touches and can thus lead the SEC in rushing. I think total rushing yards by running backs would be more indicative of "RBU".

Under Gus Malzahn, the wealth is spread out among many players.

I couldn't easily find team rushing stats with QB runs subtracted so I just went with team rushing
2014 - UGA
2013 - Auburn
2012 - Alabama
2011 - LSU
2010 - Auburn
2009 - Florida
2008 - Florida
2007 - Arkansas
2006 - Arkansas
2005 - Arkansas
So over the past 10 years:
Arkansas - 3
Auburn, Florida - 2
LSU, UGA, Bama - 1
What I find interesting about these stats is that it seems that the winner usually comes as the team who had a runner receiving snaps.
Arkansas in 2007 and 2006 (maybe 2005?) You have Darren McFadden running the wildcat
Florida in 2008 and 2009 you had Tebow
Auburn 2010 you had Cam, Marshall in 2013
LSU actually had only pedestrian rushing from Jordan Jefferson, who only played half the season anyway, so that's a true RB title in 2011 for LSU
Alabama had a true RB title in 2012 because Greg McElroy ran about a 5.5 40 back in those days
UGA had a true RB title in 2014
So you could look closer at the stats by removing QB rushing numbers, but tbh over the past decade the only school I'd think of as RBU would be Arkansas. At least McFadden was a running back by position.

Think about this, Auburn, under Gus Malzahn, would have even crazier running back numbers if we didn't use dual threat quarterbacks. Between Cam Newton and Nick Marshall, that's over 3,000 yards and roughly 40 touchdowns (educated guesses).
Also, Cam Newton lead the SEC in rushing during 2010 and doesn't even get counted.

Also if we're speaking to recent NFL success, the answer to that probably lies somewhere between LSU (Hill, Blue, Ridley) and Alabama (Lacey, Ingram) although Auburn (Tate, Mason) and Arkansas (McFadden, Jones) have had notable success in the pros as well.

Well now that's just pure speculation though. There's no guarantee that rushing yards not taken by QB runs go directly to RB runs.

Well he did, but his sack numbers lost him the title. There's arguments for and against counting sacks against QB rushing yards, but it's just very difficult to decide (as a stat maker) where to draw the line between sacked, and took-off-for-a-run-and-lost-yards. So for better or for worse they just count it all as lost rushing yards.

List the 16, not including Cam.

Tre Mason and Cam Artis-Payne in back-to-back years, but I'm on my phone and not doing the research. Maybe tomorrow.

Nine since 1956 not including Cam.
