Frank Martin - I'm content, we're moving in the right direction

There was a thread we made before the season started, I can't find it now. Basically we talked about expectations for this year's team and what would it take for it and Frank to be considered successful.
I think several of us, myself included, didn't come into the season thinking we had a Sweet16 team or anything close to that. I remember writing that if somehow he just made the tournament, I would be really impressed, but I would accept anything as long as it was better than last year (14 wins.)
We aren't going to the NCAA, unless we somehow win the SECt, but we have won 16 games (more than last year,) and I think we have a legit shot at winning 2 more.
Ole Miss is playing like garbage right now, and we've owned georgia this year. I'm content with where we are now, we'll end the SECt with an .500 or winning record, which is better than last year. We also beat a Top 15 team. We have a nationally ranked recruiting class coming in, including a 5* McDonald's All American. Frank is no bullshite, Henry and Shep messed up royally, and they are now gone.
I just have a feeling. I feel Frank has our program going in the right direction. If we can keep Thornwell, I expect us to win even more games next year than this year. Plus, who knows what's going to happen the rest of this year. If we beat Ole Miss, I'm pretty sure we get the NIT invite. We beat georgia for a 3rd time, we might get a decent seed in the NIT. Any wins after that would be absolutely amazing considering the complete shitty hand that Frank was dealt when he came here a couple years ago. frick you, Darrin Horn.

Completely agree with everything you said, he's moving this program in the right direction. And personally I'm glad he's not putting up with any bullshite, he's moving us in the right direction both on and off the court.

I remember that thread and I said I wanted 2/4 of our big non-conference opponents and around .500 SEC conference record and maybe an NIT
We overachieved my expectations in the non-conference and I didn't anticipate the SEC being as improved as it was when I made the conference record prediction. Plus our schedule was somewhat difficult in that we played the top 3 teams 6 times and the bottom 3 teams 3 times.
Anyways, anyone that can't see Martin doesn't have our program headed in the right direction is blind

Next year should be the year we can decide whether or not Martin was the right hire for our program. I'm encouraged by the direction the team appears to be heading, but our team needs to keep up that level of execution all season next year. Something close to a .500 SEC record and a bare minimum NIT bid is what I expect next year but really hoping to make the dance for the first time in almost a decade.

That's kind of where I'm at for next year. We won 14 Games last year, we're at 16 wins this year (we could end up with a few more. My minimum expectation is that he wins at least 18 Reg Season games next year (3 more than the previous year.) It will be Frank's 4th season, so I think that's fair. Winning 18 Reg Season games will give us a chance to make the '16 NCAAt, IF we also win several games in the SECt.
I knew coming in Frank wasn't going to take this team to the Sweet 16 within 3 years, b/c Darrin Horn left this program on fire when he was fired. However, IF Frank is going to be the guy to lead our program to that level in the future, he's got to be building the wins every year.

I think Frank overachieved out of conference this season, so when he beat Okie State/Iowa State/Clemson, people were expecting him to handle conference play much better than they did. Truth of the matter was that USC's overall lack of depth came into play, and the team couldn't handle some of those expectations. He's certainly trending in the right direction, and I think his boys will be in the top third of the conference next year.

Another milestone of the Frank Martin era was set tonight. We were down by 1 point with 3 seconds left on the clock and the ball on our baseline.
So then we WON THE GAME and beat a NCAA Tournament level team (at least they were a couple weeks ago.)

Still are according to Lunardi, what a fricking win.

It reminded me of the Iowa State game in that USC was in the lead the entire game, but still had to make a few key shots down the stretch in order to pull it out.
I'm happy to see that the boys' effort level never wavered. The team is somewhat talent deficient, but they fight every minute that they're out there.

They give a lot of effort and they play with a lot of heart and high energy even when they are tired ... and those two things are key indicators that Martin is doing something right. It may also have something to do with their physical conditioning. I noticed last night how much bigger and stronger our guys are, through the legs and shoulders and arms, than some of the opponents we are facing.
That may not be the case tonight. A win tonight vs Georgia is almost too much to ask for, yet it is absolutely necessary if we want a NIT invite. It's very very tough to beat a team three times in the same season. UGA will be healthier tonight, than they were the last time we faced them. Healthier and far fresher and rested that will we be after having already had two straight nights of battling.
I'm curious as to why some believe that neither Henry or Blackshear will return for next season?

I believe there was a pay site report somewhere that mentioned that both had cleaned out their lockers and were looking to transfer. Martin hadn't spoken to either of them since the suspension.

Party's over, 17 win season, 3 more than last year, but we have some great recruits coming in. We just ran out of gas tonight, our rebounding sucked, and when Carerra was not in, it was even worse.
Next year though, I think we'll get to 20+ wins. This team is getting better from where they started SEC play. We've got to get Chet to drop some weight though, he's not quick enough, that's what I noticed the past 3 games.

I thought the fatigue didn't show as much in the second half, proud of the way our guys fought and battled. Shame Ty ended his career like he did today, did he even see the floor in the last 10 minutes? Regardless a great season, I would rather not go to the CBI & CIT tbh. Just head to the offseason.
What do y'all think? CBI/CIT if we get invited or just go into the offseason?

I'd suggest we go, just to get the extra legal practices in. All the guys but Ty are coming back.

Yea its because we played a ton of zone due to fatigue. Harder to box out than man-to-man.
I'd like to see us accept an invite to whatever post season tourney if we get one. Shouldn't pass up the extra practices and game experience

USC heading home tonight and will wait until Sunday night to find out its NIT fate. Gamecocks want to play in whatever tournament they can.

Just incase peeps don't look at the BB thread:
The NIT Selection Show will take place at 8:30PM on ESPNU tomorrow night.
The CBI will announce tomorrow night, presumably after the NIT show, no selection show however.
CBI Website
@CBItourney
Also, the CBI will be utilizing the 30 second shot clock in this years tournament.

I kind of thought Martin would have gotten you guys in better shape by this point. I agree that next season should be the ultimate measuring stick.

I thought we would have done a little better, but the shots weren't dropping. There were at least 7 games where we would have a decent lead with 4 minutes to go, then watch it vanish and lose the lead with nearly no time left. But the team overall was young, a lot of fresh and soph starting and coming off the bench. Also there was at least 1 key injury that I can think of that hurt as well. I still think CFM has everything going in the right direction. Darrin Horn truly left a nuke-like disaster for him to inherit, but I definitely think next season you will see a better winning percentage team.

Yeah. We had some similar problems with that as well.
