How would y'all feel about Kenny Payne? I know a lot of people hate him for going to Louisville but he has been coaching under Cal for some time now. Should be a better recruiter and I doubt we can get an established head coach

Who out there could make a big enough splash to see us get semi instantaneous success?
I don't think we have to make a splash hire. He needs to accept the fact that Coach RR will never win here. Memphis fired their football coach after 2 years and did good with an up and coming hire.
Cut our losses and roll the dice again. We know we're not winning with the guy we have now. One more year won't do a damn thing but set us back another year.

That would be very underwhelming to me. I would like someone to come in that has the same energy and drive that Mullen had.
Bryce Drew comes to mind. Ole Miss would probably love facing him 2X per year. Sean Miller's brother Archie seems to fit the bill as well. Dayton coaches haven't fared very well after leaving Dayton, but I would give him a shot anyway.

Didn't realize he has a 37-60 record.
To put that into perspective, at the current rate, Ray needs only 4 more years to have an equal number of losses as Stansbury(140). He would need another 18 seasons to catch up to his win total(255).
We can do better than 37 wins in 3 years. It's not fair to take money from your donors when you are complacently settling for only winning 38% of your games.
ETA: Calipari is about to win more games in a single season than Rick Ray has in his career.

At this point, I really couldn't care less. No matter what we do, we'll still be a sub .500 team next year.

I would love Bryce Drew, I just don't see him coming to us. He can be a consistent NCAA team with Valpo. Same thing with Miller. We would probably have to throw some serious cash at them to even get consideration.

If darkhorse had your loser attitude we would have never beaten the Nazi's.

Set ourselves up for failure last time we wanted an established coach. What has changed and why do it again?
And by failure I mean having to hire below the standards we as fans set and creating a ton of animosity amongst our fan base. It is not a healthy way to rebuild a program.

We do have a whole lot more money to spend this time around. I agree with you but I'm not sure we can afford to shoot another blank, I think the shittiness of the Ray hire has put us in the situation that we have to pony up the money for a good coach, even if we have to overpay. Another 3 years of sub .500 seasons would be devastating to the program.

You guys have started this same thread more than once in the past 6 months.

Might as well re-hire stans

As of yet not one person in this thread has made a valid argument why he should be retained. Just a lot of "I guess he deserves one more year or, I'm not sure who we could get that's better." Ray has had State in the bottom tier of the SEC for three years. I'm not sure how in any way that is acceptable especially considering his atrocious recruiting. Might as well get rid of him now and start a real rebuilding process.

Because it's a stupid fricking thread. There have already been at least three stand alone threads, not counting the sticky that has basically just been about Ray. Why do we need to rehash this again, when everyone believes what they believe and aren't changing their mind?

Maybe you should check out the other threads, as this is the endless topic of debate.
