"Calipari is a man who stretches the rules, and wins. He won at UMass. He won at Memphis. He took both schools to the Final Four, but both appearances were “vacated.’’ They were erased. You know the drill. Ineligible players. Phony SAT tests. The usual. So, while Coach Cal and Pitino are the only coaches to take three schools to the Final Four, Cal’s also got more vacancies than a Days Inn in downtown Detroit."

DAN SHAUGHNESSY

Even the locals consider him a hack.

LOL...

Shaughnessy being critical of anyone is much like the pot calling the kettle black. He is as much of a hack as Cal or anyone else that doesn't fit in his little world.

Literally the only thing that needs to be said.

UMass is retiring a jersey in honor of Cal's final four season, so he obviously has some fans still up there.

Can they do that? I thought it was BluegrassBelle or another UK fan that said Cal had to give a ball that the university gave him back that recognized his prior accomplishments at other schools. If so why allow the school to honor the final four run and not him?

OP thought he had a shiny hook. Dan Shaugnesy lost his debate in the article with the "Bill Cosby not available" snide remark. Shaugnesy has an agenda with Cal from the UMass days.

Only Dan Shaughnessy could write a column about college basketball and find a way to take a shot at Alex Rodriguez.

Glad to see one person caught that. A Hog fan, no less. Imagine that.

I can see that. If Harrick was allowed to play in the postseason in '03 and took us to the final 4 he'd still be revered here as well.

It was. ESPN highlighted the complaint:

quote:

Now, a few months later, the Committee on Infractions is starting to get annoyed. According to the Lexington Herald-Leader's Jerry Tipton, the COI send Kentucky President Lee T. Todd Jr. a "letter asking the school to publicly acknowledge it was wrong to recognize John Calipari's 500th coaching victory this past season." Committee Chairman Dennis Thomas wants more than that, though. He says the wording of the apology must be "approved by the Committee on Infractions prior to its release" and he wants a response by next Friday at the latest -- and he's not playing around:

I'm guessing it's all in the semantics and the Infractions Committee will probably cry about it. Who knows.

So UMass and Memphis really didn't have to vacate their Final Four appearances under Calipari?

How can a hack writer like Shaughnessy get away with just making terrible stuff up like that about coach Cal?

Can't Calipari sue him or something? Should at least demand a public apology and retraction.

He said Coach Cal has vacancies. That's a lie. Coach was not penalized in any way because of what Camby and Rose did. I don't think UMass or Memphis should have been sanctioned either. Especially Memphis.
