The Man in the Van

The guy lives in a Wal-Mart parking lot out of his VW van. He gets $800 a month from his financial advisers, just enough to sustain himself. He works at an outdoor outfitter during the off-season. He shaves with an ax. This is a man's man.

Lol. Hipsters by the looks of it. He's wearing cutoff shirts and driving a Volkswagen. The whole thing reeks of unfettered irony. A millionaire living in a van down by the river. Can't get more ironic than that.

Why the hate? I couldn't do it unless I absolutely had to. If it keeps him grounded, so be it. To each their own.

This guy gets it. Simplyfying your life can really improve it. I haven't gone as extreme as living out of a fricking van (down by the river), but cutting unnecessary shite out of my life has made it much easier. Hopefully I'll cut more out.

Lol at this guy being a hipster. He isn't a horn rim wearing douche with all the new Apple gadgets, He's a self reliant dude living the way he wants to. Nothing wrong with that.

There are worse things in life than paying someone commission to keep yours easier and simpler. I can guarantee their commission is small compared to the interest he gains.

LOL, I would not hesitate to put money down on a bet about that.

Interesting. You think the financial adviser makes as much as the $2 million portfolio he puts together. It's amazing they have a job at all. Regardless, I'd venture to say this guy has a fee-only adviser.

A lot of crook advisers going to make thier commission whether or not his investments made any money.

So it is not out of the question

I mean no, it's not out of the question, but I'd say this guy is probably a little more tactful and thoughtful about the process than your average lump sum client.

Good for him. It says he's living there while in Florida at spring training trying to win a job in the Blue Jays rotation. He probably has a real place wherever he lives most of the year.

I wouldn't mind an experience like that, but I'd rather spend it traveling for a few months as opposed to sticking around in one spot (although he's on the job earning money so that's different)

Drama queen? You think he asked for the attention? What you mean to say is you want to believe he's a drama queen. There's very few things that will make someone more uncomfortable than someone disregarding popular opinion. In short, most people can't.

I'm sorry everyone is making fun of your boyfriend. And no, he didn't ask for attention, ESPN just randomly comes and photographs me where I live

You-re talking about the guy shaving with the axe, correct?
