Mr. Underachiever: Coach Kim Anderson

You cannot give Gant an award for underachieving when he's on the floor for less than any player besides Post (???). Two serious WTF stats.

I think Gant learned how physical college ball is. I look for him to put some muscle on and be a beast next year.

Gant should still have played more.

He got pushed around too much, and missed the first 9 games. He started playing around 20 MPG over the last month, that's about as much as we would want from him this year.

He was our second most efficient shooter on the floor (not talking 3's). Those who shot the ball worse than Gant: Wright, J3, Allen, Bello, Shamburger, Teki, Clark, Isabell. I'm not saying FG% is the best stat around but I am saying it tells me enough to know that Gant didn't play enough.

Ok, I tried to give awards. Just couldn't. The problem I had was Teki would look like shite for 10 games and then look stellar for 1. Wright would look like shite for 10 games and then look stellar for 1. I don't know how to award anyone the MVP or Most Improved.

Yeah, I was just throwing it out there to see what other people thought...except I feel pretty good about Shamburger being the MVP.

He was the most consistent by far, which on this team, was the most valuable. J3 would be a second choice, but had too many games where he couldn't get it going.

If not for his elbow injury, Clark would of been second to Sham. J3 has been good, but inconsistent. Clark has had lower highs and higher lows.

No he didn't. He averaged less than 10 mpg over the last few games.

And the only danger of him playing more was us losing games. Wait...

The two highest FG % shooters got the fewest minutes per game. Let that sink in.

His last game skewed his averages, and that was due to taking an elbow to the face.

It's ridiculous that he is in the bottom 5 of minutes played for any stretch of games for which he was eligible. It's indefensible.

He was a defensive liability. If his FG% was so good, how come he didn't shoot it more when he had the ball? There are parts of the game that are not quantifiable by numbers. Good Defense, off the ball movement, etc.

I get that he has high potential. But he clearly wasn't as good as J3, they play the same position. Both are too weak to handle opponents bigs. Which meant that they didn't get to play together often. And up until the last 4-5?games he was a huge defensive liability.
I also think that he will be the player that makes the biggest strides this offseason.

Rosburg was a defensive liability. And he can't shoot or rebound. And he's a turnover machine. He played.

Namon Wright was a defensive liability and he started.

It's simply KoolAid talking trying to defend Gant's lack of experience this year. Experience.

I'd say Clark is arguably still the MVP despite missing the brunt of the second half of the season. I look for him to be a real leader on the floor next year. It sounds like Crean doesn't have any spots for Bryant and Cuse just got their penalties. Wishful thinking I know, but better than the negative Nancy vibes around here.

Those guys didn't have someone at their position that was clearly better.
I'm hoping that both J3 & Gant add 20 lbs apiece so that they can play together.

Nearly every single player out there was a defensive liability. So why play the worst of your worst instead of someone that at least has some promise in the future.

I think that was part of the NCAA investigation attrition. KA probably didn't want to have to rely on Gant if he wasn't going to be eligible.

His debut was IMO his best game of the year. He leaked out of the low block on the baseline, catch and shot. That is the type of player he would be this year without the pounds.

Personally, after the NCAA investigation, I would have redshirted him. Knowing the season was lost, save another year of eligibility.

But he got about as much playing time as he deserved this year.
