Bring me Howland.

I'm ok with this. Could get him for a little less, if money is an issue. (Apparently it was last year at this time)

I would love to see him get it.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Bobby Hurley or some other young, hungry coach getting it.

It seems such a gamble in hire a guy who takes over a smaller program or mid-major and only has 2 or 3 seasons and moves on before even having a complete recruiting cycle.
I'm not saying Hurley, or any of the other young coaches doing pretty well this year, won't be a HOF coach but simply that Grant fit that profile even better when we hired him. And, Grant's done better than a large percentage of those type hires in that he's at least been slightly above average.
Incidentally, if I recall correctly, Hurley took over at Buffalo for our current assistant Reggie Witherspoon. I think they had consistently been about the same 20-ish win, CBI bid team under Witherspoon most of the time.

I thought it was a forgone conclusion that we were getting Tom Izzo?

Grant needs one more year. That offense is starting to turn it around. Next year will be the year.

Not sure if serious.
Would prefer Howland, would be pleased with Archie.

It doesn't need to be a big name. But a veteran coach with a history of building programs.

1) Offensive spacing
We have looked extremely uncomfortable running an offense for how many years now? I think it comes down to spacing. We can't make an entry pass to the post the right way. Hell, I'd love to see a back door cut once in a while.
2) Good recruiter
We don't have to be elite at the recruiting level if we have a coach that has a good eye for talent. A lot of players that weren't highly ranked have left the state and excelled at other programs. A coach with a good eye can keep those guys here at BAMA, as well as land a good portion of the states top talent.
3) Full court press
If there is any positive to xCG's philosophy, it's his aggressive style of D. With that said, we should be scoring baskets in transition after we press. Problem is, we just look awkward on the break whether it's a 3 on 2 or 2 on 1. I just don't think we have the type of players to FINISH in the open court.
It's almost impossible to say who would be a sure fire thing. Michael White , Hurley , Donlon and the like are some good up and comers, but, do we want to go that route again?
Do we want to wait out the season and see what coaches get shown the door?
I'd take Lavin, Crean, Turgeon, over what we currently have (assuming 1 or more are ousted).
Howland would be a nice get, as with his age, this could be his final stop assuming he succeeds.
It'll be interesting to see how we handle the hiring process. This will be Battles first true test imo.
