OffRoadSportsman's thread got me thinking about which schools had the most productive players at each position. I'm sure many of y'all know your own team's history much better than I do, but I want to know what y'alls thoughts are of the following based ONLY on college production.

Quarterback

1. Florida (Wuerfell, Tebow, Spurrier)
2. Auburn (Newton, Sullivan)
3. Alabama (Namath, McCarron, Barker, Stabler)

Running Back

1. UGA (Walker, Sinkwich, Trippi, Gurley)
2. Auburn (Jackson, Williams, Fullwood)
3. LSU (Cannon, Faulk, Alexander)

Wide Receiver
1. Alabama (Cooper, Jones, Newsome, Hall)
2. Vanderbilt (Matthews, Bennett, Mitchell, Stricker)
3. UGA (Green, Edwards, Gibson, Hunter)

Offensive Lineman
1. Alabama (Samuels, Jones, Smith, Hannah, Stepheson
2. Arkansas (Andrews, Bullsworth, Luigs, Phillips, Kolenda)
3. Florida (Pouncey, Dennis, Gagner, Odom, Brown)

Defensive Lineman
1.Tennessee (White, Atkins, Henderson, Haynesworth)
2. LSU (Spears, McFarland, Wiley, Dorsey)
3. Alabama (Cook, Cody, Lyons, Copeland)

Linebacker
1. Alabama (Thomas, Jordan, Bennett, Lowe)
2. Florida (Spikes, Marshall, Litttle, Green)
3. Tennessee (Little, Spova, Wilson, Kiner)

Defensive Back
1. Georgia (Bailey, Hoage, Scott, Woerner)
2. LSU (Casanova, Peterson, Landry, Mathieu)
3. Alabama (Wilcox, Castille, Barron, Milliner)

Special Teams (K/P/KR)
1. Tennessee (Hall, Colquitt family, Gault)
2. LSU (Jasper, Wing, Mathieu or Green)
3. UGA (Butler, Butler, Boykin)

Eta: Claim - I only looked at the top 4-5 players per position to decide the place of each team. For example, Bama's top 8 running backs, or Florida's top 8 receivers are better than LSU's top 8 running backs, or Vandy's top 8 receivers. I wanted to only use the very best of the elite players though.

Before we weigh in, are you talking about just college production or NFL included? That will be big.

Just college production. I'll edit that in the OP.

AU number 2 for QBU? You named the only 2 that were great.

I can't speak for everyone else, like you said in the OP, but it seems like we'd have to be in the top 3 somewhere. Sinkwich (was technically a QB), Tarkenton, Zeier, Greene, Stafford, Murray, etc.

The one I look at as off immediately is wide receivers. Still trying to figure out how to rank them, they just look out of order. All the others look not terrible. Except Auburn at 2 for QBs, might have to lower them a few rungs.

AU #1 for RB and we shouldn't be on the list for QB

All 5 of the QB's on UF & AU were Heisman trophy winners...

I don't see how anyone could compile an accurate list of this nature. I mean each school probably has anywhere from 3-10 really, really good/great players at eveyr position over the last 100 years. It'd be nearly impossible to come up with a concensus list at each position.

I'd have to think UF is somewhere in the top 3 for receivers in college given how much we traditionally throw the ball.

Wes Chandler, Carlos Alvarez, Chris Collinsworth, Jaquez Green, Reidel Anthony, Ike Hilliard, Percy Harvin, Gaffney, Doering, etc.

As far as Qbu.

Auburn at 2? Have you lost you mind? Gave gross, Chris Todd, keihl frazier and many other bad qbs have played there recently.

Cam played there 1 year

Bama has a pretty solid argument for RBU, too. Musso, Humphrey, Alexander, Ingram, Richardson, Lacy..

Bama is only school in sec that has a legit claim to #1 at every position... No other sec school can say that

That's great and all, but AU at #2 for QBU is retarded. Florida, Georgia, Bama have all had better QBs.

I guess I should have phrased that differently. Even though Cam only played one year at Auburn, he won the national championship and the Heisman Trophy. I would trade for that production in a heartbeat if my opponent got 11 years of Greene, Stafford, and Murray in return.

Exactly, I'm scanning through list on the interwebz for wide receivers right now. Theres a lot of greats for each team. And I can't really say I know too many names pre 90s. UF certainly has a case for Top 3 WRU, UGA, Vandy, even LSUs had a few

That is true if all you look at is receiving TDs. In fact, UF dominates in that stat (5 0f the top 15). But in career receptions and career receiving yardage, UF only has one player ranking in the top 15 for receptions and none for yardage.
