Springfield XD is a nice all around firearm, tough to go wrong there. For a no nonsense carry gun Glocks are always easy and reliable.

As far as "leave the guns to ..... just run, etc etc" Dont listen to them. When confronted with a threat, you are a million times better off to be armed and well trained, than you are to run and be chased down from behind or shot like an animal.

No one is going to look out for your safety as well as YOU can. Police are not first responders, YOU are. They come afterwards and mop up the mess.

LOL.

By this logic you do not need a gun, or want one, you would want a knife, especially with proper training with such.

Ask a LOI who they are more concerned about a nutcase with a gun or a nutcase with a knife...

If they have a gun themselves.... I will leave the knife with you

I find myself in situations at time where having one would be beneficial to our family.

Congratulations on finally taking seriously your single most important responsibility on this earth......Which is to protect your own family.

My Advice: Don't listen to anyone else, and buy whichever gun feels most comfortable in your hand.....and that you feel best meets your anticipated needs.

My Preference: based on your post, I'd highly recomend a Glock 19 (Made in Georgia, btw)It's a no-nonsense, function-over-form, reliable, indestructible weapon....and is mid-size without sacrificing feel but still perfect for conceal carry. Also, It's 9mm which will be less intimidating for your wife to shoot than a .45, but just as deadly when using the right hollow point ammo. And you will be carrying 15 rounds per magazine unlike the .45 caliber 1911 little dick snob-posers who will flex and tell you that 9mm isn't enough.

Anyway, congrats again on taking a small, but important step away from the zombie sheep herd.....

I've been a concealed carrier for a while now. There are really 2 main guns you should look at. The S&W shield 9mm and the Springfield XDS in 9mm. They are hands down the best carry guns on the market. I personally own the shield because it's thinner than the XDS and I like that.

Broke, I changed it slightly, but can't, or won't argue with your choices.

Eta: to change lcp to 380 from 9mm
