What percentage of recruits commit to a school and not a coaching staff?

Was talking with someone earlier about this and I said more than half of players that commit every year commit to coaching staffs and not the school. I think coaching staffs have WAY more to do with kids committing to programs than the programs themselves.
Thoughts?

I mean, it's not like we haven't recruited well the last decade or anything

About 47.2%
It depends on the school though.

From a national perspective, of all the FBS level commits, less than 5% chose that school just b/c of the school's name/prestige.
More kids make a decision based upon:
- coaching staff relationship,
- depth chart, playing time appeal
- Next Level Development (how many kids does this/that school put in the NFL>)
- location
- academics (do they have his major, how good is the program/degree?)
- Money (who has the best offer.)
- childhood favorite team (grew up a fan.)
I think all 7 of these have more weight with the majority of student athletes than just saying "school X is awesome and historically good." If school X is awesome and historically good, they are probably doing well at the majority of the things listed above.

Agreed 100%. Think if Saban left Alabama, I highly doubt they would recruit at the same level.

Depends on the coach we get to replace him. We have a desirable program for top coaches to come to as well.

I think majority of the time a player is committing to staff, but on the flipside I can also see some players holding out and still playing for the school in the case of a coaching change if it's a strong enough program that they're going to pull another good coach.

Most recruits are dumb, so the percentage isn't very high.

I would say that, in regards to the OP, these bolded items would be choosing the school vs. the coaching staff.

I don't think it's simply one or the other, ie a kid commits to either a school or a staff.
It's a combination.
A good staff at a shitty school will pull in good talent (Ole Miss)
A shitty staff at a good school will still pull in talent, but leave a lot out there to be desired (team like Michigan the last few years)
Great staff plus great program= rake in talent (Bama, LSU)
Shitty staff, shitty program= feeling elated to have 2 conference wins in two years
