SEC bubble watch, 3-4

Ole Miss finally managed to break out of their skid with a win against Bama last night. While they didn't beat a great team, it's still a road win and that's always significant. A loss may have knocked the Rebels out of the tournament completely. All they need to do is beat Vandy on Saturday and they're safely in.

To no one's surprise, Georgia lost to Kentucky, but their season sweep of Ole Miss has them in pretty good shape heading into this weekend. Only problem is they have a land mine game against Auburn, who they already lost to once this season. The Bulldogs can't afford to lose that one.

Lsu has been playing much better basketball lately, regardless of schedule. It seems like the players are motivated by a chance at making the tournament, and Tennessee has the misfortune of playing in the PMAC against a hot and hungry team. While beating Arkansas on the road is a tall order, the Tigers only need to win tonight to feel comfortable and remain on the good side of the bubble.

Texas A&M didn't help themselves last night with a loss against a struggling Florida team, and they are currently the weakest of the SEC bubble teams. The only thing keeping them on the bubble is the season sweep of Lsu, which isn't much considering the Tigers are clinging to the bubble as well. A&M has to win on Saturday against Bama, and they would benefit the most from a good run in the SEC tournament with a chance to add a couple good wins to their paltry résumé.

Agree with you at this point hog...
I'm worried for the Aggies... (Not really, but I don't know if they make it)
The other 3 need 1 more win to be in. Aggies may need some SECT work.

Yep, their RPI was good enough until last night. They took a bit of a tumble with the loss to Florida. They absolutely can not afford to lose to Bama on Saturday. Even with a win, they'll be sweating for the SEC tournament bracket to come out.
Strangely enough, getting a top 4 seed might actually hurt them with the double-bye. They need all the wins they can get.

If we beat Bama and win one game in the SEC tourney I think we are in.

That won't be easy, because as of now the Aggies would be playing Ole Miss in their first game of the SEC tournament. Tough draw.

Looks like it would be LSU in that 4-5 game unless I'm misunderstanding the tiebreakers

If projections hold up and we don't have any major upsets, A&M would be the 3 seed. Your first game would be against the 6 seed, which is Ole Miss. Again, that's if we don't have any big upsets in the first round.

That isn't a bad thing honestly. They need some more quality wins and beating Ole Miss in the first round might be enough to offset the UF loss.

Absolutely, if they beat Bama and then beat Ole Miss in their first tournament game, they're a lock. If they beat Bama and then fail to win any SEC tournament games, they're out.

How would Ole Miss be the six seed?
If we beat Bama, OM beats Vandy both of us will be 12-6.
If LSU beats TN and loses to Arkansas they will be 11-7.
If UGA beats Auburn they will be 11-7.
OM beat us head to head so they would be the three (I would think), we would be the four, LSU beat UGA so they would be the 5 and UGA 6.
I would rather play OM because I think beating LSU three times is tough and we could use a quality win against a different team, but I don't see how OM drops to the six seed unless they lose to Vandy

My bad, I was looking at projection from before yesterday's games. I guess they had Ole Miss losing @Bama.

No worries. I don't really know the three way tiebreak rules if LSU somehow beats y'all and finishes 12-6 with us and OM.

What are the seeds when there is a 4 way tie for 2nd? I bet no one here has bothered to research that.

First they go head to head, then records against top seeds. Since no one has beat Kentucky, wins against Arkansas would be the deciding factor.

what? if there is a 4 way tie for the 2 seed how is that wins against arkansas would be the deciding factor? They're tied with 3 other teams for the highest seed.

the research was done on the tiger rant. the first tiebreaker is not how you fared against UK (not that that matters). it's head to head amongst the teams you are tied with.
in that scenario lsu would be the 2 seed with a 3-2 record.

Is it the same for a three way tiebreaker? So if A&M, LSU and OM finish 12-6 I believe we would win. We would be 2-1, LSU 2-2 and OM 1-2.
