COLUMBIA, SC — Bojangles on Bluff Road will move soon from the doorstep of USC’s Williams-Brice Stadium a block east to where former wholesaler Price Bananas lodged for decades.

The Bluff Road Bojangles overflows with customers during the fall, when University of South Carolina football fans hunger for fried chicken, air conditioning and a bathroom break.

North Carolina developers filed an application last month with the city of Columbia for clearance to build a new 4,300-square-foot restaurant at 1130 Bluff Road, a long city block away from its current location.

The old Price Bananas building will be demolished, but a timetable for razing the building and constructing the restaurant have not been made available. The fate of Bojangles’ building, which sits in front of USC’s multimillion-dollar tailgating and parking complex, is unclear.

Everything is gonna be schweeet once completed.

The whole area has come so far in the past twenty years.

Fifty years ago ... I never could have imagined.

I've witnessed all the major upgrades through the decades.

Seriously, that place was ridiculous. It reminded me of being at an overcrowded bar when you have to say excuse me to take every single step.

Must have made a shite ton though. Waffle House took notice.

It can be that way during the off-season.

A lot of it has to do with limited options down there and the fact that a lot of people are living down there in the various condos full time these days.

Plus, there just seems to always be something going-on down there ... construction, an event, a game, whatever. So that place is one of the highest grossing fast food restaurants in the state. I used to see the association trade mags and there was an article written about that place a few years ago ... I mean they were doing in the millions. They were having to be renovated practically yearly.

I'll be interested to see not only the new place, and how big it is ... but also the decor. It will be decidedly University oriented, big time Gamecock decorated.

You're definitely right Rooster... I lived in The Woodlands my last two years of undergrad, which is WAY down Bluff.. once we left campus after class, we tended to not make our way back up past the stadium, unless we were going to 5 points or a baseball/basketball game... which means your only options for food were that bojangles, Sammi's Deli (now closed), Burger King near I-77 or driving all the way down Atlas Road to Garners Ferry.. The Bluff Road area is a food desert. They really need to develop that area, for the student's sake haha..

FUN FACT: Bojangles isn't the only guy making money in Columbia.. The Sonic and the Moes restaurants on campus are both in the top 10 for highest earning in the country... they were top 5 when I was in school a few years ago.

But yea, I loved that Bojangles and I'm sad to see it go.. but yea it needs to move. I'm younger than most of you so I relate to it slightly differently.. That's kinda where lots of students would meet up with their friends on gamedays after leaving the tailgates and heading up the stadium. You'd see at least 10 students there slouched over passed out or drunk at all times before or after the game.. it was a blast.

On another note, any idea what they're gonna do with the land that Bojangles is on now? That's prime real estate.. can't leave that building there.

This is why I think Waffle House is a genius. They put up 2 new ones in the last couple of years. 1 in 5 points and the other off of Bluff Rd near all those off-campus apartments and the stadium. Waffle House knows how to capitalize on drunk people.

I understand Sonic as well. It's open 24 hours, next to some off campus housing and is on the way from the Vista / 5 points to Bluff Road.
