Correct. He's a huge star in the art world right now. Kuksi is one of Guillermo del Toro's favorite artists as well.

Older Francis Bacon, Dali, Matisse, Picasso, Marc Chagall (especially his stained glass which is OMFG!) and more. Bacon is likely the least known of that crowd so to freak y'all the hell out and explain far too much about myself here's my favorite Francis Bacon:
In our lifetime: Jean-Michel Basquiat (deceased), Kara Walker, and my buddy Wesley Kimler who is legit so I'm not just saying that cuz I know him.

Bacon is easily as famous as the other artists you mentioned.
My absolute favorite painter is Brad Noble (can't link protected images), one of America's leading figure painters. Plus, he's from and lives in Springfield, MO. My paintings have actually hung beside his paintings in area art galleries.

Yes and no. He really doesn't seem to have worked it's way into the popular or even famous world -- just within the art world. Although, he did get famous for a while when Thatcher blasted him.
I'm not familiar with Noble but will def. be checking hm out.
PS. I love Jacob Lawrence. My tastes are very eclectic but Lawrence really makes me want to learn to paint in Gouache just to see what I can do.

Bacon's Three Studies of Lucian Freud was the most expensive painting in the world in 2014 when it sold at auction for $142 million.
I'd say that the artist of the most expensive painting in the world is as famous as and deserves to be included in any list of master painters.

Edvard Munch overshadowed him fairly quickly with his ONE painting (ok several of the same). TBH, I'm not entirely convinced Lucien Freud as subject wasn't what truly thrust Bacon into the super-expensive spotlight. Freud had recently died and Bacon's triptych of Lucien Freud was wayyyyyy outside his normal style. Lucien was beloved despite his rougher years.
That said, I do agree with you that Bacon is most certainly a MASTER.
I just don't feel he gets the credit he deserves outside the art world which is super-internal. More regular people should know him but his best art, imo, is hard to stomach because it comes from violence and war.

Well, here is what I can tell you: If someone offered me a Bacon or a Munch, I'd choose the Bacon every time.
