We're good with the traditional powers (football, softball, gymnastics and golf), but what about the other sports?

Granted the athletic season still has two months remaining, but basketball will finish worse than 10th in the SEC. Women's basketball finished last and hasn't shown much improvement. Baseball hasn't made it to Omaha since 2000.

In my life, I don't know if there has ever been a time where the "main" sports programs have been so down. I'm only 25, but the days of Wells having the baseball team on point or Gottfried finding an upset are long gone. Will Battle have the balls to change things or will he be gone before we realize how far behind we are?

2007.

Alabama Football goes a paltry 7-6

Alabama Basketball snaps their NCAA Tourney appearance streak, lose in the 1st round on the NIT.

Alabama Baseball misses the post-season entirely

Alabama Gymnastics misses the Super Six for the first time since 1997.

Alabama Softball advances to Super Regionals and no further

Alabama Volleyball makes the NCAA tounrey loses in first round, will not make another appearance until 2013.

Alabama Men's Golf finish a lowly 6th.

Alabama Women's Basketball finish 8-22.... with a winless SEC campaign.

seriously.... frick 2007.

Its still unclear whether Bill Battle is just a placeholder AD or if he is someone who is 100% committed to excellence in everything.

I get this feeling, and it may not even be justified, that the general attitude towards basketball & baseball is that the admin doesn't want to go all in for those sports due to not wanting to jeopardize or take the focus away from football.

I'll buy it for basketball, but not baseball. With the money being spent to upgrade facilities, I think Battle knows it won't make a bit of difference if we're not a contender.

Other than Nathan Kilcrease pitching two games in three days, nothing about the Gaspard era sticks out. Look at how many fans were attending games when we were going to Omaha. Same for basketball when they're competitive. The fans are chomping at the bit to support a winner. Instead, we're left to wonder why we can't compete.

I don't understand how those programs doing well would jeopardize football. CNS has said he wants to see every sport competing for championships which makes sense because there are ancillary benefits to all the programs. For several years I would see CNS and top visiting football recruits in a packed Coleman. You should've seen the way the recruits (not to mention the whole colesium) reacted when Tony Mitchell threw down a dunk. I dont know if they stopped coming or moved seats but I haven't seen CNS or recruits at the games the last couple years which isn't surprising considering how underwhelming the environment has been.

If that's true, then everyone involved should be fired.

I'm not saying it is, its just this feeling I'm getting. Of course it will be validated if we keep Grant.

I know the football team sometimes has reserved seating next to the student section, although hardly any of them show up. I don't blame them though.
