Is this a reason to brag?

Since when is laughing at an Auburn loss 'bragging'?

And just a FYI, Auburn's 6.90 yards per play on offense in that game against Clemson was the highest output of the season. Yes, higher than Utah State (6.74 ypp), higher than Florida Atlantic (5.08 ypp), higher than Ole Miss (6.37 ypp), & higher than Samford (6.01 ypp).

Well then I guess LSU's defense will be worse than giving up 566 total yards, including 298 rushing yards, like Chavis did last season to Auburn.

Doomed, LSU is just doomed.

He was Alabama's DC in 2007. Gave up 22 points per game. The worst since Saban has been at Alabama. Kirby Smart is giving up an average of 13 points per game over a span of 7 years. Steele is a decent recruiter though.

Steele is, without a doubt, a downgrade. However, comparing Steele's defense is 2007 to smarts entire body of work is ignorant in so many ways it's actually funny.

We melt. It just is for different reasons than you would expect us to melt.

Yes, he is.

I'm just amazed that John Chavis went from being a top 3 defensive coordinator, according to LSU fans, to "expendable" in only a few short years. Texas A&M got a massive upgrade at the position and LSU, after hiring Kevin Steele, got a massive downgrade. Ed Orgeron was an awesome hire, but he's just a defensive line coach.

Do you think the DC is solely responsible for the defense, or that the staff is a factor? Because, as a whole, LSU's defensive staff >>>>>>>>> aTm's.

The father of the top recruit in the class of 2017 claims Steele>Chavis. Enough for me

Of course the staff is a factor, but who ultimately makes the calls on game day?

For some unknown reason, the LSU fans on this board went from complete meltdown mode (you know it, I know it, everyone knows it) after the Kevin Steele hire to being jubilant over an Ed Orgeron hire.

The Kevin Steele hire was bad...

2007 was Sabans first year or second year at bama right? While I don't think Steele is as good as Smart, I also don't think he is as bad as 22 points per game. I'd imagine if you compared bamas defensive roster in 2007 to the rosters smart had to work with the differences would be drastic. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle.

No positional hire would off-set a hire like, say, Scot Loeffler...or even Kevin Steele.

Good example. None of yall could figure out why we would melt over a recruit more than any single game.

2007 - 22
2009 - 20.4
2010 - 18.8
2011 - 29.3
2012 - 24.8

These are Steele's years as a DC. Those last 2 years are concerning, but the 3 before that aren't terrible.

I don't like the hire much, but I'm going to wait and see what he can do with the talent LSU has on the roster before I say he's terrible.

Cameron already had a polished Mett, OBJ, Jarvis Landry, and Jeremy Hill.

No...no...no

Cam has admitted and took blame that it's taking longer than he'd like to these guys working his system.

As for Steele, maybe he's learned from prior experience and will be better for it. O is a huge coaching upgrade on the DLine, as well.

No doubt our talent level will be amazing with these guys on the recruiting trail too.

Everybody is hoping Steele sux and I can't blame them.

Clemson (2009) 21.8 PPG
Clemson (2010) 18.6 PPG
Clemson (2011) 29.5 PPG
Alabama (2007) 23.3 PPG

Those are Kevin Steele's years as a defensive coordinator, averaging out to his defenses giving up 23.3 PPG. During his time at Clemson, it appeared that his defenses did well until most of his players starting taking over as starters. That is what I expect to happen to LSU, although not as severely.

LSU fans claim their defense is loaded at every position, yet ESPN recently rated their defensive line as the 8th best in the SEC. Maybe Godchaux or someone else can develop into stars, but I don't see any proven stars going into the season

It's a simple question. We all know he sucks compared to Chavis.
