He was Alabama's DC in 2007. Gave up 22 points per game. The worst since Saban has been at Alabama
2007 was a lot of worsts for Saban. He was building that season. That isn't a fair assessment of Steele's work.

Giving up 70 points in the Orange Bowl after being ranked worse that 50 nationally in defense at Clemson is a better assessment of his work.

Steele is horse shite. LSU could've done so much better.
Steele either has good defenses or Les's shitty offenses aren't bailed out by solid defense and Miles gets himself run out of town. Win win.

I don't think people realize how entangled the game of football is. The offense has a tremendous effect on the defense and vice versa. Steele will not be bad at LSU just because it is very difficult to do. We slow the game down so much on offense that neither team has a ton of posessions. If we are giving up more than 30 in regulation then we are either scoring quickly, the offense is going 3 and out, or the DC is absolutely horrendous. I don't think any of those 3 things apply next year.
Determining the "better" DC is relative. Some have strengths and weaknesses that others don't. Sometimes they fit a team better. I don't think Chavis' fit here. I think we need to be more aggresive. No reason last year's team shouldn't have had more sacks or turnovers because the talent was there. Steele is likely to give up more points than Chavis, but I am hoping that he will also lead to more turnovers and sacks. Turnover margin might be the biggest contributor to success, and we don't turn the ball over on offense. Now its just time to force them on defense.

Didn't Steele beat Auburn in 2011?
Steele's Clemson defense gave up 31 1st downs and 595 yards to WVU in 2011. That same year Chavis' 'Bestest LSU Defense EVAH!' gave up 28 1st downs and 533 yards to WVU. Holgorsen had WVU on fire that year.

Exactly what we'd expect a melting fan to say

I'm kind of envious of A&M fans. Y'all are one of the few fan bases that don't really melt. I guess that's due to the lack of success so you don't really have anything to melt over. It's the very definition of ignorance is bliss.

Didn't Steele beat Auburn in 2011?
And just a FYI, Auburn's 6.90 yards per play on offense in that game against Clemson was the highest output of the season. Yes, higher than Utah State (6.74 ypp), higher than Florida Atlantic (5.08 ypp), higher than Ole Miss (6.37 ypp), & higher than Samford (6.01 ypp).

He his a pretty highly regarded LB coach. I'm guessing the defensive staff will play a large role in game planning. There's a ton of knowledge on this staff. The big question in-game changes.

If he sucks next year, he can be replaced.
He won't get fired after 1 year. If they did that, it would be that much harder to attract a real DC if the expectation was 1 year.
If he sucks next year, he can be replaced for the 2018 season.
