As a college student, I would give anything to have a full ride.

No.

Full cost of attendance.

Football and basketball players shouldn't have to pay for anything that is necessary while on campus. Food, housing, books, basic clothing, ect.

No. Why should they get paid when regular students don't? Don't say because athletes earn the school money. Good students earn schools money with grants and such

No. Nobody is forcing them to play college ball.

Yes

The decent ones are already getting paid and the others that cannot work due to football need a sustenance / per diem stipend..

No. It's literally the last thing separating college football from the NFL.

If athletes want to get paid without going through college, nobody is preventing them from trying their hand at the big leagues.

Yes.

Because they make the school gobs of money and honestly they are in school to play sports. That is their full time job, spare me the "amateur student athlete" bs. They should be allowed to make money off their own names.

Without the school, they don't even have a name.

Many of them have a name before they are seniors in high school.

Incorrect.

The universities are just being used as a de facto minor league farm system.

If there were a more ubiquitous option, athletes would go there. You're deluding yourself if you think it's about the education or that that really factors in for many of them.

If they created a true minor league for the NFL, college ball would become unwatchable.

Whoever downvoted me I'd like to hear your rebuttal.

Btw athletics don't make a lot of schools money. Many ADs operate in the red, even football teams lose money for most school. Athletics are good for the schools to get their names out there and recruiting regular students, who's tuition money is where the schools are actually making money.

Here's another good reason: if you start paying athletes you have to pay every athlete the same or you're opening yourself up to lawsuits under title IX.

Not if you let them make money off of their name.

I think they should be able to make money off of their names but it opens a whole can of worms if they allow it
