Brotherhood of the Wolf is a pretty cool obscure movie that's very well done.

If you ever want to see by far the most fricked up movie that's also well done, see Martyrs. But be warned, it's not one to watch with your GF on movie night. And when you get done watching it, you just feel different, like kind of disturbed and you can't stop thinking "WTF did I just watch?", but it's mezmerizing at the same time because it's just so messed up. Trust me on this one though.

Can't agree at all with Birth of a Nation. It's great cinema history and there is some amazing film work, but I would never consider it a "great" war film.

Favorite War Movie (Drama)
The Deer Hunter

Favorite War Movie (Comedy)
Kelly's Gold

Favorite War Movie (Historical)
Gettysburg

Swimming with Sharks.

stars Kevin Spacey before he became a household name.

Full Metal Jacket was ok at best.

Somehow you forgot some of the better ones like: The Longest Day; Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo; 12 O'clock High, etc.

you have a right to your opinion, of course... FMJ was heralded for its 'realness' of war and portrayal of basic training. if you are a Marine or know one, it was to the minute detail.

As far as war movies go, FMJ and Platoon were at the top for me too.

However, there's still nothing better done than the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan when it comes to war movies.

Broken Circle Breakdown

Pretty depressing, but really well done. Great music, if you like bluegrass.

ETA: It's in Belgian with subtitles.

Navy, ma'am. Did a tour at Parris. From what I saw, pretty dang close. But that doesn't make it an excellent movie. Good, yes. Excellent, no.just like that crappy Platoon. That could have been a pretty good movie.

I will agree that the opening of Saving Private Ryan was good, but it went downhill fast.

The Killing Fields.

NYT reporter covering the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia. I didn't add it to my war movie list but should have. It's also one that most (under 40) have never seen.

I watched a movie a while back on Net Flix called "All is Lost". There's only one actor in the whole movie and the only dialogue I remember is when the main character yells "FUUUUCK!!!" one time.

It's about a dude sailing alone across the ocean and shite goes horribly wrong and he stares death in the face.

Not awesome, but Different. I recomend it.

Aint it Tom Hanks? Good movie....

For some reason hardly anyone I know has ever heard of Frailty, much less seen it.

It has Bill P (can't remember if it's pullman or paxton, I think it's paxton?) and matthew mconaughey. Really solid little movie. Basic synopsis is this dad is visited by angels and gives him people (who are actually demons) to kill. It's not like an action/slasher movie, it's more of a drama. I would highly recommend it.
