Steven Jackson & Harry Douglas cut so far today....

Also, the NFL's penalties on the Falcons for 2 years of "pumped in" crowd noise due by 5:00 EST today. Expected to be loss of at least 1 draft pick(round not known) & a huge fine. If it's a 2nd or 3rd round pick it'll change the Falcons entire draft strategy for this year...

Did someone nark on us about the sound? How do we get away with it for 2 years and they just now catch on?

Well, every team I root for always gets over punished so expect the first for this year and next to be gone.

Can't believe they cut Douglas.. he was the best WR3 in the NFL. Always reliable when Jones and/or White are inevitably hurt at some point. One of my favorite Falcons

As to SJax being gone I couldn't care less.

Harry was going to be a $4.936M cap hit and only $896K dead money if released.

We still have Hester, Reedy, Martino, Davis, and it's pretty apparent they want Weems back. All of these guys are much cheaper than HD, including Hester. Plus, they are really high on Reedy and I think they want to make him the future slot guy.

I really like HD so this is sad, BUT, I definitely understand why they did this. And, now HD has a chance finally to be a starter somewhere. He's better than any WR that Seattle or NE currently have, along with probably a dozen other teams. I could picture him being a 100 reception 1300 yard guy some place else easily. He did 84 receptions and 1100 yards for us in only 12 games when Julio went down. He's grown up and can certainly be a #1 somewhere.

What sucks for us is if JJ or Roddy go down for any reason, we now have less reliable depth to fall back on. That is unless Reedy or Martino or whomever we draft steps up, which could certainly happen. We know what Hester and Davis are already. Hester drops half of his passes, Weems is a ST guru and an average slot guy, and Davis is simply mediocre at everything. I'm excited to see what Reedy can become. That dude is ridiculously quick.

Current cap situation (2/28/15):

Sportrac.com/Falcons

Cap Space (w/Top 51) $28,399,129

And, this INCLUDES the $6M that it will take to sign our draft picks.

The only thing this doesn't account for currently is Matt Bryant's new contract figures. He was $3.3M last year and just re-signed a 3-year deal, so I imagine he's probably around $3.5M this year, but a cap hit of around $2.5M.

So we're about $26M under the cap even AFTER signing our draft picks. That's pretty awesome. We can get a huge FA with that and still have plenty for 2 or 3 other decent FA's.

I like Harry as much as the next guy, but there is no way that he is a better WR than Edelman or LaFell.

I don't really like the falcons and don't really follow them....I understand SJ because he's old as hell but why did they cut douglas? I know he isn't a star but from what I have watched he seemed to be ok right?

I find it hysterical that one of the main reasons for their current situation was because of Jarius Byrd. If you remember how much shite their fans were talking when they signed him last year it makes it all the better. Anyways, here is a pretty good article on their current salary cap situation.

IMO they are either looking to splurge on a free agent that they think is more talented or they fell in love with someone at the combine, probably the latter. Also it's really not that shocking when you consider that he was in the final year of his deal and none of the money was guaranteed. It still sucks though, HD was always a reliable #3 WR and capable of filling in as a #2 when need be.

I would also not be surprised if they dump Roddy heading into the 2016 season. I know he signed a 4 year extension last year but I'm pretty sure the majority of the money was for '14 and '15.

Won't get Houston. KC is going to franchise him if they don't re-up a new contract.

Better chance we get Greg Hardy.
