La’el Collins, LSU
High School Measurements: 6-5, 306
NFL Combine Measurements: 6-4.5, 305

This was compared to most other OTs who put on 30+ pounds. Is LSU purposefully keeping weight off guys to be quicker than competition? It was an odd stat to see.

ETA: A few others for comparison sake since some are missing the point:

quote:

T.J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh
High School Measurements: 6-5, 265
NFL Combine Measurements: 6-4.75, 309

Jake Fisher, Oregon
High School Measurements: 6-7, 270
NFL Combine Measurements: 6-6.25, 306

Ereck Flowers, Miami
High School Measurements: 6-6, 315
NFL Combine Measurements: 6-6.25, 329

Every other offensive linemen at the combine put on SOME weight, most put on 30+ pounds between HS and the combine.

His high-school measurements were probably just off.

Our new OL Coach definitely likes a lean body type. He's been here a year. I guarantee Collins was ~320 when our previous OL Coach was at LSU.

It's highly likely.

A lot of times high schools will measure players in pads.

There were a number of guys that had height measurements off by .75-.5 inches which is pretty typical, but the weight difference was not typical at all. He was basically even on weight where the average weight gain was around 30 pounds for the other linemen.

It means he was:

A). Fat in high school
B). Measured with shoes on in high school

We know he is stronger, so he turned fat into muscle. I am the same height today at 52 than I was at 16.

He was probably 6'4 285 in high school. I'm sure size is inflated like all of the 4.3 forty times.

Are you asking if LSU (or any football program) is keeping an offensive linemen from gaining weight to make them quicker?

Yes, considering he was the only one to not gain weight during college and it's not like he started at the higher end. He's on the lower end of weight compared to the other OTs.

I'm sure his weight fluctuated throughout college just like any other football player. It isn't unheard of for players to shed weight for the combine and it worked out well if that was his plan. What is your angle with this thread?

Texas A&M has not beaten LSU in football in 20 years.

Don't really care about the height. But the weight or lack thereof is surprising unless the kid was a tub of lard (highly doubtful) in HS.

Wonder what strength gains there were?

This anomaly is interesting for curiosity's sake.

His strength was in pushing around the cup cake soft A&M defense.

Aggies have not beaten LSU in 20 years in football.
