...I think you're confusing God, religion, faith and man.
Men for mellinium have used religion as an excuse to commit heinous moral acts. What ISIS is doing now is really about controlling land/wealth more so than establishing exclusive islam faith zones.
All these religions doctrines have codes of ethics, conduct and beliefs. Life is suffering, suffering comes from your needs, believe in mo, believe in Jesus Christ, or you're going to hell, if you treat people wrong, you're going to comeback as a mule, etc...
One of the common things all these religions have in common is that they need money and people to believe in them to devote time, work, energy or money to. Without money, without people investing time/thought/work into them, they don't exist. At least they don't exist in a realm that is conceptualized by man.
Also religion is a great tool for cultural cohesiveness and teaching acceptable terms of societal behavior. It provides consequences for actions that may be eternal.
With all that said: the God of Abraham is the one true God, and Jesus Christ was his son The Lord. People did some stupid things in his name, and others have done some stupid people in mo's or some other a-hole's name. Just b/c people perverse religion and do stupid things in a God's name, doesn't make God evil. It just means what we knew is confirmed... some people are stupid.

I'm sharing a rough sketch outline of a belief known as gnosticism.

God told Moses to kill anyone that didn't believe in the one true god. He sanctioned mass murder, and has done so time and again throughout biblical text. It's not just people doing stupid things in god's name.

So is Satan good in this scenario?

I don't think so. But I'm not really sure, to be honest.
I do know that the devil's kill count in ancient texts is close to zero, while god's needs a calculator.
Let's say I'm at the level of a gnostic generalist at this point, far from a specialist on the subject.
I'll paraphrase a comment from a podcast -- phd's near to the subject fail to fully put together the entirety of the gnostic belief.

Where, what verse?
Deuteronomy 13:6-10New International Version (NIV)
6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
New International Version (NIV)
Deuteronomy 13:12-16New International Version (NIV)
12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the Lord your God is giving you to live in 13 that troublemakers have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. You must destroy it completely,[a] both its people and its livestock. 16 You are to gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt,

Read up on the Yeshida and their"peacock god". He was a beautiful angel, cast out of heaven for singing in dissonance, who then wandered the earth as a teacher to primitive peoples. The story seems so familiar, but I think I heard a different version somewhere.

The earliest version of the "Kill it with fire, it's the only way to be sure"

Worse yet, what if God has a sense of humor?

Actually, there are theologians who argue that Satan may actually be good but over time he was mistakenly painted in a bad light.

Here is an excerpt from the Yezidi Scriptures. He definitely has a sense of humor here.
Then he commanded Gabriel to escort Adam into Paradise, and to tell him that he could eat from all the trees but not of wheat. Here Adam remained for a hundred years. Thereupon, Melek Ts asked God how Adam could multiply and have descendants if he were forbidden to eat of the grain. God answered, “I have put the whole matter into thy hands.” Thereupon Melek Ts visited Adam and said “Have you eaten of the grain?” He answered, “No, God forbade me.” Melek Ts replied and said, “Eat of the grain and all shall go better with thee.” Then Adam ate of the grain and immediately his belly was inflated. But Melek Ts drove him out of the garden, and leaving him, ascended into heaven. Now Adam was troubled because his belly was inflated, for he had no outlet. God therefore sent a bird to him which pecked at his anus and made an outlet, and Adam was relieved.
