The SEC, for one, will never go for it. Not as long as Calipari's churning out national title contenders full of freshmen and football powers like Alabama and LSU are luring five-stars with the promise of a "three-year plan" to get to the NFL. Meanwhile, most of the other 27 Division I conferences have little incentive to support such a move because most of them aren't getting confused for pseudo-professional leagues. Even if Delany could get the majority of his peers on board, surely he realizes the opposition he'd run into trying to impose such a radical restriction on just those two sports.

I assume this is about the push to have freshmen sit out their first season?

The better option is getting the NBA and MLB on board with requiring potential draft picks to spend three years in college.

I don't give a crap about college basketball but I have a feeling the Big Ten will be the best football conference for the next 3-4 years. I just think they have better coaches right now than the SEC does.

they have meyer and harbaugh. and harbaugh inherited a trainwreck. they have some other coaches that are solid but the SEC still has the best coaching; both HC and asst.s.

The first line is why it will never happen. However, if they can somehow provide a link that playing freshmen has led to some sort of harm to those kids, then there may be pressure for the SEC to get on board. It hurts the SEC, but if it is good for the kids (Calipari always says they should do what's best for the kids, and I respect him for that, what's best for the kids he brings in is 1 and done) then the SEC's argument isn't as good to me.

Delany never said it should happen. He said the powers should get together and discuss it. There is nothing wrong with bringing the issue up for the conferences to talk it over and see what the advantages/disadvantages are to sitting freshmen.

Stewart was probably a nerd in high school and college. He probably has zero athletic skill. He just knows how to write well. You think his opinion is important?
