I think Tuscaloosa is mostly right. There are hundreds of recruits to scour through, the sites do they best they can in evaluations with limited information they have and reassign on the "echo" evaluation from coaches and teams that have consistently brought in solid recruits. 247, scout, rivals, etc. let Saban and other big coaches do a lot of the immense legwork for them. You just kinda have to consider that when looking at star value. I'd totally do the same thing if I ran one of those sites.

Beyond the reasons said above. Shannon Terry founded rivals and 24/7, and is a Bama fan. So it's an easy troll for rival fans.

Because 2 of the top sites are run or owned by Alabama people I heard.
Hard to be unbiased when your school is involved.
I think the fact that Alabama has done so well in recent years tends to make evaluators think they know recruits.
Still it looks biased, even some Alabama posters here believe that.

40 years ago Notre Dame kids got the same thing. These sites are a business so the more subscriptions/clicks they can generate the better for them. No doubt some Bama recruits get the benefit of the doubt. But I bet any school with a large national following (Ohio State, Texas, etc) are getting the same to some extent or another.

I wouldn't say the same, but to some extent yes I agree.
The fact that many have lived up to their billing makes it hard to argue against it...
I think a lot of that has to do with, and as much as it pains me to say, great coaching.
Other schools such as TCU can say the same if they would get bumps since coaching there is solid.

The fact that Matt Womack remained a 3* after flipping from LSU to Bama kind of killed this theory for me.

Yes it is real but it has more to do with the people at the recruiting websites being crappy evaluators so when big schools come offering a kid they tend to get a big raise in their ratings.
For instance, Wallace was an OT out of the St. Louis area for the 2014 class that was a middle of the road 3-star prospect in the month of Feb for his cycle and when I watched his film I laughed all day long for how bad/wrong his rating was. Eventually big schools came offering and he ended up a high 4-star OT.
The "re-ranking" of Bama leans is some of the dumb bush league things they do to try and keep bama at the top of the recruiting rankings.
In the end it is about what happens on the field.

Are the on-the-field results not proof enough?

First of all I respect the dynasty that Bama has built, but I still wonder how good they would be if they had to recruit the players that Mizzou or Arky does? I use to think that UCLA basketball(J. Wooden) and Bama football were over-hyped because they always got the best players in the country.

That Mississippi kid that went to one camp, got an offer and jumped from 3 start to 5. Committed to BAMA. Lawrence, I think?
Neither amounted to anything. Those are those two most glaring.

Interesting reading on the subject. For those who can't open it, there are quite a few "experts" nationally who believe in the 'Bama Bump. Personally I think it's humorous fodder for these venues.

Lawrence made his name for shutting down Julio Jones in the Ala.-Miss All-Star game. He washed out at Alabama after red shirting, then transferred to USM. Quit there too. But still made a NFL roster. Albeit briefly.

Love was in Saban 's first full class, before the bump began. He was just a straight up bust that happens every year. Lawrence was because of shutting down Julio,as mentioned above.
Alonzo wasn't much of a player, but he had a helluva ride. It was the most ghetto fabulous Bamamobile I've ever seen. I wish I could find the old picture.

Look at all the new t- shirts you get every year..

Who was the Rivals guy that admitted to the Bama bias one night in a thread on the main board and then was subsequently fired?
