If you haven't read this yet over Silas then do it. It's an SI article written by Ken Rodriguez.

I mean the guy had his apartment paid for by somebody else along with other stuff, how do you not think that's against the rules?

Don't buy it that he didn't know he was breaking any rules.

Having said that the NCAA needs to change some of it's policies.

it's the school paying for it surreptitiously in an effort to skirt the NCAA's scholarship limits,

That's exactly why this is in violation of the rules.

Something odd about that situation. If he can establish relationship with "close family friend" predates his classification as a prospective student athlete then he should be good to go.

Yeah, the NCAA acknowledges a "pre-existing" relationship/friendship, etc. when they evaluate eligibility for student-athletes.

This

Sounds like they are trying to get extra scholarships by attempting to pay the way of guys not quite good enough since if he has a pre-existing relationship, then this is a non-issue. Not that interested in the sob story beyond that as I had to pay my own way as a college student and I wasn't living in the streets. College loans are not that hard to come by.

This is the kid's own damn fault for transferring out of Cornell (where he was also playing football) to a school that he couldn't afford. If he wanted to play ball as a walk on so bad he should have gonna to a cheaper state school that he could have handled financially.

If anything, it's Baylor showings it's true colors by trying to create a sob story for getting caught committing a clear attempt to get around scholarship rules.

Wait...this kid transferred from an Ivy League school to Baylor but he has to live in the streets? Yeah, nothing fishy with this story

Yep. He had a scholly to Cornell but left b/c he was "disillusioned" w/Ivy culture and the cold according to the SI story linked.

This isn't the injustice that Baylor people are trying to portray it as.

This is a kid made stupid decisions story.

I had a pretty significant scholarship there and was still paying around $8K a semester.

How's that B A degree in Sociology working out for you?

Ken Starr says it's A&M's fault and he is going to sue.

He should steal a teammates cell phone or beat up his girlfriend and wait for the offers to roll in from an Alabama school.

My friend from Mizzou is so correct. You had to be a BDF escapee to understand what is going on there. Iowa State is the only innocent party left but they have nowhere to go.

So happy we are in the SEC.
