I doubt Alabama's release is for anywhere in the SEC.

I doubt it... IIRC, he's already played in two seasons, meaning if he plays next year in a juco, he'd have only one year of eligibility left.

not redshirting is really gonna limit his options...

I thought it was an unconditional release?

I kind of wish he'd stayed. He hasn't done anything on the field yet, but there are examples all the time of Bama players not making an impact until their junior or senior seasons.

Nick Perry, Nick Gentry, Reggie Ragland immediately come to mind. His tweets seemed too amicable for him to be "pushed" out so I assume he just didn't want to wait to make an impact like so many players at Bama must do.

You don't know the rules.

then enlighten me...

You only get 5 years to 4 seasons... Liner has already used up two of his 4 seasons of eligibility... it would make zero sense to play the 2015 season in a JUCO b/c he'd only have 1 season at the FBS level remaining (no juco is going to take him so he can redshirt then tranfer after 1 year).

By not redshirting (or leaving after his first season) he's limited his options... the possibility of transfering to a JUCO, getting tons of PT, then starting the whole recruiting process over again is gone (basically what Cam Newton and Nick Marshall did)... he'll have to transfer to a school approved by Bama... then sit out 2015 as a redshirt.
