By the 3rd grade in arkansas. Agree/disagree?
Its a lost art like writing a letter.

Disagree. Just teach them how to sign their name. That's all they need cursive for.

Largely because everything is technology based anymore. The only time cursive is used anymore is for signatures and I don't think I've even used it myself outside of that for a couple decades.
There should be a bigger emphasis on grammar instead.

This. I learned cursive in kindergarten and have never used it beyond 5th grade. Why waste time teaching something useless?

Disagree.
And I love to write in cursive.
But even I can admit that there's really no practical purpose for it anymore. Let it go the way of calligraphy and those who wish to pursue it can do so.

No cursive now, no cursive tomorrow, no cursive forever.

Because that would make too much sense.

Agree.
Look at the type of person who cannot read or write in cursive

well technically you can 'print' your name wherever it asks for your signature.

Seriously? I use it every day for something.

Other than your writing preference what requires it?

This. I can barely understand some of the posts on this board, for example. Cursive is passé and is dying a quick death.
We can already verbally dictate our thoughts to a host of devices and then transmit them electronically. I predict we'll soon be able to dictate our thoughts directly simply by forming them in our minds.

If I don't write in cursive, it looks like a two year old scribbling.

I just hardly write anything by hand anymore. If anything its numbers at work. Occasionally sign my name but that's all I can think of in the day to day.

People would cringe at how much "text lingo" has bled over into writing for kids, especially teenagers who are at the age where they've been texting for several years now. 2 for to, cuz for cousin, etc.
