We beat UGA, we planted trees. It was a successful day.

Any of you guys ever go to Dauphin Island? We are looking at a house to rent there a week during July for a family vacation. Just looking for a different venue.

Any experience?

I have never been to an American island.

I only have experience with European and Caribbean islands.

Edit: P.S. Nice edit!

the wife and I always take a vacation in August. We mostly go to the Caribbean. We will be going back to Punta Cana again this year.

Our family vacations are usually to Clearwater or Destin or somewhere like that. We wanted to try some place where it was not as crowded and we hear this place is nice and not crowded. Got a great deal on a house.

If y'all ever decide to go Euro and you want a summer trip and beaches, try Capri (Italy) or the Ballearic Islands (off of Spain), Majorca or Minorca.

We have bee talking for years about trying Europe. Thought about Greece and Spain.... Just love the Caribbean and have a place that takes great care of us when we go. This will be our 4th trip there this August. Doing a 10 night trip this year.

My wife has a friend who has done Greece twice and tells good stories. I am sure that trip is in my future

The Aegean (Greece) is fricking gorgeous, though I never could convince the Department of the Navy to let us stop.

But the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca, Palma de Minorca) are right off the coast of and are part of Spain and are gorgeous. Something to keep in mind.

And Capri is easily fit into a trip to Italy on the Mediterranean/Tyrrenhian (Rome/Naples) coast side, not the Adriatic side.

Would love to get hammered tonight. Have a bad cold and that would make me sleep like a baby but I have to get up early and work all day tomorrow. Have not cut it off at about two drinks

I live in Semmes (just north of Mobile) and visit Dauphin Island every now and then. If you are looking for a quiet place the. It is the place to be. There is absolutely nothing to do on the island. We only go there because it is closer than Gulf Shores of Pensacola Beach. Not to mention the water isn't as clear.

I love dauphin island. You will enjoy yourself. But there is nothing to do there but fish, drink, cook out, and watch the world go by. The water can be murky or it can be nice. I can give you a few places to fish if you are taking your boat down there.

Thanks man but there will be no fishing on vacation.

I want to plant my arse in the sand, watch the sun shine, drink like a fish and leave my phone turned off

So no places to eat? We should prepare to cook all meals?

Haha I understand. There is a store on the island you can use for things you need but I highly recommend stopping at Walmart or another grocery on your way down. There is another small greers grocery store about 15 minutes from the island that is decent. There are a few restaurants but none of them are outstanding. We always smoke ribs, grill steaks, boil shrimp, etc.

I prefer Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. Even more so if you are looking for beach, sand, and quiet. There isn't anything to do on Fort Morgan either, but you can at least drive into Gulf Shores for lunch or something.
