we're #1 again this week in the Collegiate Baseball poll. I expect we'll be #1 in the Coach's Poll as well. Long way to go still but I've definitely underestimated us every step of the way.

When we talked about it a few weeks ago, I think I predicted 16-14. But really didn't expect to be 7-2 at this point. Shane was preaching the gospel and I wasn't ready to listen

The SECW looks weaker and weaker each week also, at least to me. That middle group of teams that we were usually in the last two years just does not look very strong

Let me try and not fumble the #s this time.

If we finish 11-10 (7 series left) in conference and go 4-2 in the remaining mid weeks that puts us at 42-14 (18-12). That would put us right in place with getting one of the final national seeds as long as we showed up to Hoover and won a few.

Good point. Weaker than normal, but no slouches. And again we miss out of Vandy and UF. With USCe dropping like a rock, @LSU may be the only major conference series remaining. @UK may be tougher than expected though. Their RPI is top 20 and just took 2.3 from LSU at AB.

yeah saying "weaker" is pretty relative. There wasn't a single sweep in the SEC this week. There are no truly bad teams this year. Every series win is a nice win.

Somehow lost in all the discussion is that Nebraska swept t.u. I get that the sips are a bit down, but it's always good to see them lose.

Yeah, it's obviously relative. It just seems like there's typically 4 very solid SECW teams that you could see making an Omaha run, and I don't see it this year. Seems like it's LSU and us and then a pretty significant gap. That may turn out to be wrong though, who knows. I think it sets us up well to have a great conference season.

I agree on UK as well. The east looks pretty stout this year compared to the past with Mizzou and UK having solid clubs even though SC looks a little down right now

honestly I'm not sure I wouldn't rather them have won. The state needs a 3rd regional or I could see it be UH/tu/Sun Belt in our regional and Rice/DBU/Southland in TCU's. IMO that would be a real bad setup for us because all four of tu/Rice/UH/DBU probably are 2 seed types that they'd shoehorn in to save money. We need one of them to host

IMO it would be best for Texas to end up as a weak host paired with our Super. Then they can send UH there and give us Tech as our Big 12 team. The state would then also need some traveling teams and all three regionals could be balanced better. Basically, I have zero faith the committee won't shaft us to save $50 somewhere so I'd rather it fall in a way that makes it so there is no incentive for them to do so.

saw a tweet that this is the 2nd time we've been #1 in Coaches Poll in Childress era. We were preseason #1 in BA in 2008 but I don't see a previous Coaches Poll #1. Anyone know?

It helps our RPI so I'm all for NU winning. Our OOC SOS is weak. We need UH, NU, DBU, etc to win as much a possible if it comes down to the wire for a national seed.

I think if we get a 3rd regional in Texas it will be DBU. They're following the Rice formula. Load up with local high RPI/names teams midweek (TCU 2x, A&M, OU 2x, OSU, BU) then rack up crazy win totals in a crap conference. The only thing they are missing is one marquee weekend series. If they can make a decent enough bid (is the stadium big enough? I know its brand new) then they will deserve it. If they don't then I could see them #1 in an Austin or Houston regional.

Their new park only fits 2k but I could see them letting them host because it's the NCAA

Could also see them using the Frisco park if schedules work rather than host at another school

There it is.

I understand what tmc94 is saying, but to me at this point that's a lot of maybes. NU sweeping t.u. helps us right damn now. And I'm definitely not skeered of playing t.u. in a College Station regional.

They're deserving (so far), but has a regional ever been played in a park that small? (I'm asking out of ignorance, I really don't know.)

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I want to say yes. I'll look into it.

K State & Indiana both hosted not long ago. Their home fields' capacity is 2,331 and 2,500. I assume they hosted at their home sites.

Last year, Cal Poly, Robin Baggett Stadium, Capacity of 1,734 normally. They packed in 2.9k last year. I assume DBU's park could handle some overflow, temp bleachers, etc. If they keep kicking arse and taking names then they will likely be able to host.

Yep, agree. And Cal Poly, who went 45-10 last year, is a really good comp. DBU's SOS right now is 17 but their last 5 home series are all against sub .500 clubs and it's going to crush that. Last year with a similar sched, their SOS finished in the 80s.

Cal Poly had similar issues but won 3 weekend series vs Pac/Big12 ooc. DBU doesn't have that chance. So to keep their foot in the door they need to not slip any games vs the crap half of their conference they play down the stretch. If their RPI is still bordering around 10 at the end of April, then I'll start believing.

Also over the years I'm pretty sure both Fullerton and Pepperdine have hosted multiple times. Both parks are tiny though I think CSF expanded theirs recently
