So based on the other thread (yes this is a response thread) I was looking at the Alabama/Tennessee rivalry. Didn't realize Alabama leads the series by 13 games. Tennessee hasn't beaten them since 2006 - almost 10 years.

Looking at the Wikipedia page, there's not much history there. How and when did this series take on the designation of a rivalry?

For a rivalry to exist there has to be some history, but do the teams need to be within a certain number of wins of each other to really consider it a rivalry if there's no history?

Up vote if you don't really consider this a rivalry/down vote if you do consider a rivalry.

I mean, not trying to be rude, but if you don't think there is much "history" in the Alabama-Tennessee series then you need to take a College Football 101 class.

With Florida making up roughly 80% of them.

Alabama and Florida have more SECCG wins than LSU and Florida, guess it's a better rivalry.

Well, it's the 2 best teams in SEC history. We can start there.

Tennessee has beat Alabama more than any other team has beaten them (37 times).

Props to Bama for their current streak.

Beat them 7 more times then you Aubies can talk.

113 years

Also, 1 of the 2 games in the conference that eliminates the 6-2 format from being used instead of the 6-1-1.

It's kinda a big deal.

We certainly aren't ahead of Georgia in our head to head with them, but the Border Bash is usually a pretty good game.

And the annual throw down with Clemson. Hate those frickers with the heat of a gazillion suns. And they hate us equally as much. I think that is what makes a true rivalry...mutual hatred of each other.

So what you're saying is that the series was within 5 games before Alabama started our current streak, yet you can't comprehend why it's a rivalry?

We play Bama and Florida every year with no complaint.

Your point?

Can we play both UT and UF? I'll be glad to drop either MSU or Ole Miss.

You're a idiot. For the first time in 15 years, Florida is trending down and Tennessee is trending up.

Now is not the time to make that trade.... Which means it'll finally happen.

Obviously not you.

quote:

Alabama leads the all–time series 51–38–7 (with the 1993 tie forfeited to Tennessee by Bama due to NCAA penalties, and the 2005 Bama victory vacated due to NCAA penalty). Due to this technicality, Tennessee actually has one more "official" contest in the series (the 2005 loss, which is officially not removed by the NCAA ruling), giving the Vols 38 wins to 51 losses in the series. Alabama has no official result (Win or Loss) for 2005, giving the Tide 51 wins to 38 losses in the series.
