Mark Few would be great, pretty sure he's glued to the west though.
With that said, he makes close to 1.2 yearly, while we're paying Grant 1.9.

I say we hire some young fire pisser and don't pay him squat until he makes the NCAA tournament.

Why? We aren't hurting by any means. I think we just pulled out close to a $40,000,000 surplus for the athletic department.

Yeah, I hope that number means we have an opportunity to really throw our weight around when the time comes to find Grant's replacement. It also means that Grant's buyout shouldn't be a major issue preventing us from doing what needs to be done.

Mike White from La Tech has my vote. Plays an exciting style. They play hard for him, and he gets tough mfers. Not just "nice kids" like Grant's program was full of. Many assume he'll be the next coach at Ole Miss. But not if we nabbed him first. Only reason he turned down Mizzou and UT is because of the mess Haith & Counzo were leaving behind.
Mainly we need someone who isn't afraid of Bruce Pearl. Hell, I'd take Andy Kennedy. He's done about all he can do at Ole Miss

Howland wishes UT/Mizzou would have shown interest in him, he doesn't care where the job is location wise, and he'll definitely be taking a job this year. The time is right for us to hire a great coach.

I'd take him in a second. We'd be lucky to get him.

Anyone know what Battle's email is?

I wonder could we get the coach from Northern Iowa?

Howland was fired at UCLA for not getting along with AAU coaches and thus poor recruiting. You have to have good ties to Komara to be successful at Alabama. Howland scares me.

What? Howland was a great recruiter at UCLA. Hiring the coach of the Atlanta Celtics was a brilliant move on his part. That's why he left studs for Alford's first year.

They should go after Mike D'antoni.

What exactly was the problem at UCLA? I recall it was a bit ugly when he left but don't remember the details?
Posted on 2/21/15 at 6:59 pm to Bryant91092
Hampered by a string of underwhelming high school classes on the West Coast and by fractured relationships with Los Angeles-area high school and AAU coaches, Howland endured some lean recruiting years from 2009 to 2011. He swung and missed chasing top-tier out-of-state prospects like Adonis Thomas, Terrence Jones, Jahii Carson and Ray McCallum and passed on impact LA-area players like Kawhi Leonard (San Diego State), Spencer Dinwiddie (Colorado), Kendall Williams (New Mexico) or Allen Crabbe (Cal).

He was fired because of his recruiting and primarily his relationships with Los Angeles AAU coaches who hated him. He couldn't recruit Los Angeles.

just my 2 cents. We don't need someone's reject we need an up an comer, unless a proven current head coach at a Power 5 is looking for a new challenge like Nick's friend at MSU

After his string of final fours, he pissed off local talent and thus hired an AAU coach who delivered a top ten class. Once again, his recruiting wasn't to blame. They got pissed at his slow style of play more than anything.

That's what we have now. I would rather hire a reject like Ben Howland than another up and comer like Anthony Grant, Darrin Horn, Andy Enfield, or Brian Gregory. Especially if that reject took one Power 5 team to the third and fourth Sweet Sixteens in that program's history and then took another Power 5 team to three straight Final Fours.

just not liking his final days at UCLA and bill Walton who may be a tailhole had some harsh things to say about him too
