Those are great finds based on what they have turned into. Guys outside of the top 15 in their respective recruiting classes rarely sniff the NBA let alone be as good as a guy like Bledsoe or a top 10 pick like WCS.

You could get better examples by looking at his Memphis or UMass teams, I just went with 2 guys that has at Kentucky.

INTERESTING. if/when Grant is let go the MEMPHIS coach is a solid candidate. great recruiter n knows how 2 run a b ball program

If you're talking about Pastner. He'd be about the worst hire possible. Grant clone. No personality and his teams constantly underachieve. That would be an awful hire.

He refuses to work the refs.

We gave up 31 free throws at USCe on the road, 41 free throws to Arkansas on the road, and got a total of 35 free throws in three home games vs. UK, Auburn and Florida.

This is SHOCKING news. I really wish we'd give coach Grant a few more years to get his guys in place, and not be judged by all the bad luck he's had to face these first couple of years.

Did you forget to put a worm on that hook? This ain't fly fishing son!

I'd go after Bobby Hurley...up-and-coming guy that learned from several greats, plus he's not the "can't miss" that Grant was, so he wouldn't be as expensive

Eric Bledsoe and Willie Cauley Stein weren't highly rated guys out of high school.

Terrible examples. Bledsoe was a 5-star on at least one site. Willie Cauley was a top 40 player that was only offered because he struck out on his top big man targets. He didn't even see him play basketball before he offered and he committed. Cauley is basically the poster child for my point.

This is just so weak. It is the same dumb shite people say about Saban.

Saban's a great coach, but recruiting has played a HUGE factor in his success as well. Also his basketball recruiting has been a helluva a lot more impactful than Saban's football recruiting. He rakes in nothing, but five-stars. That's by far the biggest part of his success and most reasonable UK fans would agree. Like I said he's a solid coach, but you're blind if you don't think his recruiting has been his primary source of success...

Go look at some of his successful UMASS and Memphis teams and come back to me

I really think Mike White is the best option of the possible guys.

He created La Tech. When he got there they were wretched. They have no money. He still signs talented kids and wins 25+ a year. He has proven he can build a successful program from scratch and sustain it for more than one class of kids.

I value that much more than a guy who takes over a successful program and just keeps it afloat.

I'm gonna convince myself that whoever we hire will do great. As long as we just make a change.

UMASS

The job he did at UMASS was impressive, but his most successful years there were fueled by having 3 NBA draft picks on one team including Wooden award winner Marcus Camby...

Rodney Carney (16th, 2006 NBA Draft)
Derrick Rose (1st, 2008 NBA Draft)
Joey Dorsey (33rd, 2008 NBA Draft)
Chris Douglas-Roberts (40th,2008 NBA Draft)
Tyreke Evans (4th, 2009 NBA Draft)

Teams with just as good or even better talent have failed to much worse teams over the years.

The whole argument is hilarious. He's rebuilt 3 programs, taken all 3 to the Final Four, never lost to a double digit seed in the NCAA tournament, and has a better winning % at UK than Adolph Rupp did through the same # of games.

It is the same tired shite you hear people say when discussing Saban. "Well he should win every game because of their recruiting classes." It is a cop out.

They change how they play seemingly every season of offense and his teams will always be great defensively.

It's tough to recruit basketball players when a majority of them go the One and Done route to the NBA

I guess this is where we agree. This is the "success" I'm talking about. Whether it's recruiting or coaching, it works. It doesn't matter how it's done... success is success. It's exactly why, as much as I dislike him now, I would be ecstatic if he were our coach.

The Prohm hire would kill me initially, but I'd eventually hop aboard the hype train.

This may be something we do that I don't know about. Why don't we get a guy like Robert Horry or Antonio McDyess to come in and help our program (not as a head coach). Both guys played for multiple years at Bama (not one and done types based on quick wiki search) and would probably be willing to lend a hand. They were both top 15 draft picks and had long and successful NBA careers.

Horry's been asked this question, and said he doesn't want a collegiate assistant job. Not sure about McDyess.
