I posted this on the F&D board and got nada, so I'm hoping some of y'all can help me out. Basically, I just need someplace that doesn't suck.

I'm taking my mom to NYC next week, and it happens to fall within NYC Restaurant Week (it's actually multiple weeks, but whatever). I thought I might save us a bit by picking a couple of meals from the participating restaurants. Mom's not an adventurous eater, so I just need someplace solid. Can anyone recommend any of the restaurants at the link? Thanks in advance!

I've been to several of those. All the Bobby Van's are all Bobby Flay-owned spots. All solid and steady, but wont change your life or anything. But if you're dining with someone who's not adventurous BV's may be a good call.

Maloney and Porcelli's is next door to the Palace Hotel on 51st between Madison and Park Aves - right in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Always very good and not too stuffy. One block from the Waldorf if you wanted to take her over there first for a drink.

Russian Tea room is at Central Park South on 58th. It's good but may not be the best place to take mom.

And Michael Jordan's is located inside Grand Central Station. It's actually pretty decent but that's not where you want to go. It's a commuters bar full of folks from the burbs who want a quick bite/drink before their ride home.

I can recommend about 1000 other places that arent on that list, if you want. Holla.

NOTE: that Cipriani Dolci is not the Cipriani that you may have heard of before. It's actually located in Grand Central, too. I'd avoid.

And The Capital Grille is a chain steakhouse, ala Ruth's Chris. Can get that steak anywhere...

Thanks!

This is killing me because if I were on my own, I'd be eating every type of amazing ethnic food NYC has to offer, but Mom doesn't go for much beyond Americanized Italian, Mexican, and Chinese.

She doesn't drink! If I didn't look exactly like her, I'd say I was adopted!
