Somehow somebody swiped my debit card while I was using the ATM. Got back to the hotel 30 min later and noticed it was gone out of my wallet..immediately called and had the card cutoff. Whoever did it took 900 dollars in that short amount of time...and somehow got my PIN number to do it because they took 400 out of an ATM machine.

I'm fricking pissed I hate that cesspool of a city. My parents last year got their card number stolen from a restaurant waitress in Louisiana, and had their car broken into in New Orleans. What a shithole

What is the likelihood that my bank can recover my money considering I reported it stolen immediately? I know my parents got their money back when their card number was stolen.

Depends on your bank but some banks will offer fraud protection on debit cards if you report the theft within a certain amount of time.

But in the event you are fricked and out $1300, this is exactly why I only use credit.

But yes, New Orleans blows arse.

I'm lucky I noticed it when I did or I would have lost a lot more. And thankfully I have a withdrawal limit on the card for that exact reason.

It put me in a tight spot though because I left my checkbook at home, my card was gone and I only had 45 bucks cash left on me. I put 33 dollars of gas in my truck (thank God for cheap gas), bought lunch and barely made it home running on fumes.

Mine does offer it. It'll take a couple weeks while they investigate it...I just don't know how they'll figure out it was legit stolen. Apperently now they phone apps that take infrared pictures of atm keypads and it will show the heat signatures from your fingers touching it. People are using these apps to steal PIN numbers and cards

Hadn't heard that one yet. They make cell phones with infrared cameras?

Everything I do is in cash for this reason. Have to take it off my corpse if someone is trying to get it.

I've been to NOLA twice and one of the times had a waiter/waitress still my card number and run up about 300 in shite off of AOL.com before I even made it home. The other time I asked a guy for directions and he got arrested while telling me.

Mine has an ATM daily withdrawal limit of 400, but I can still use it for purchases even if it's maxed out on withdrawals.

THe person who stole it took out 400 in cash and spent 500 elsewhere.

It was a joke. From my other thread. I just think you're institutionally racist. Not personally.

And that's why I quit paying with a card at places where you can't see where the card goes.

You must be an easy target. Being a state fan out of his element in a big city...
