South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is going back to his roots to help resuscitate a Gamecocks defense that finished near the bottom of the SEC this season in nearly every category.

Spurrier has reached an agreement with Jon Hoke, the last defensive coordinator he worked with when he was at Florida, to join the Gamecocks' staff, sources told ESPN.com.

Hoke, 58, has been an NFL assistant since 2002, most recently the defensive backs coach with the Chicago Bears. He was Spurrier's defensive coordinator at Florida from 1999 through 2001, replacing Bob Stoops when he left for Oklahoma.

Still a rumor on LSU's Brick Haley.

Can you guys send a secretary as well? Someone will have to get coffee for our coaches now that Brick will be leaving.

Brick isn't even an on the field coach anymore now that Orgeron is at LSU now. Do I have that right?

Sorry, aTm took our secretary when they joined the SEC. Looks like Hyman is happy in Texas, though.

Yep! Our D-line once established as "DLU" has taken a step back in the past few years. He's a good guy and works hard, on the field and in the recruiting trail, but his development of talent is hit and miss. Pass rush has been a weakness of ours for some time. He's a quality hire though for USCe. He has some cons but he has some pros as well. He'll do well at Carolina. I wish the best for Brick. He just ran into a sticky situation where Coach O was available and we couldn't pass that opportunity up.

I doubt LSU makes him pay his buyout. The Chavis buyout situation has more to do with the fact that he screwed LSU over pretty bad while leaving. Brick leaving saves LSU about $900,000 over the next two years for what amounts to a grad assistant.

I would imagine them changing his job title probably gets him more lead way in getting out of the contract

I imagine they'd waive the buyout for a school we'll only play once every seven years. I'd only expect the buyout to be demanded if he went to a western team or Florida.

We'll just pay A&M directly, instead.
