the LSU girls are having a pretty incredible turnaround. If Caldwell could just hire an assistant with strong recruiting ties, the program would be top 15

LSU really messed up not hiring Staley when they had the chance. I guess LSU had to hire someone like Van Chancellor for PR following pokey scissoring half our squad

At the time of the hire, Staley wasn't a better coaching prospect than Caldwell. Also, what makes you certain Dawn would've left what she was already building in Columbia, to come to Baton Rouge? LSU did well in hiring Caldwell. The only thing she needs to do at this point is add an assistant who's a good recruiter. Her coaching has been very good........................ESPECIALLY when compared to Van Chancellor.

Here's my preview of the week.

NCAA Tournament looks like this:

Locks to Host (Probable Seed)
(1) South Carolina
(1) Tennessee
(3) Kentucky

On the Hosting Bubble, Tourney Locks
(4) Mississippi State
(5) Georgia
(5) Texas A&M

On the Rise
(10) LSU

Watch Out, You're Slipping on to the Bubble
(12) Vanderbilt

One Last Shot to Make a Run This Week
Arkansas

Games of the Week involve the #1 team in the country. South Carolina has a tough road game at Georgia then a non-conference battle with #2 UConn in Storrs. Obvious the latter has national ramifications, but at the end of the day, its a non-conference game that really doesn't matter.

The Georgia game matters. UGA is right on the bubble of being a top 4 seed and a host in the first and second rounds. The SEC will get at least four hosts, and that fourth host is between State, UGA and A&M. Every win matters,

State and A&M play each other on Sunday. Aggies should be 6-3 in conference and State will be 7-3. The winner of this game locks themselves into a good position to get a host seed. With Georgia facing a fifth SEC loss if they can't get by Carolina, this may end up being a de facto host/travel game.

Tennessee is still undefeated in conference, and is the only team that could challenge Carolina for the conference crown. They have three losses, but a #1 RPI. They go to a struggling Florida this week, which shouldn't be a problem.

Kentucky is in purgatory. They aren't good enough to compete for the SEC crown, but they are good enough to be considered a virtual lock to host. They travel to Vanderbilt this week, who is facing two must win games against Ole Miss and Kentucky if they want to get off the bubble. If Vandy slips up and loses both, they could be 3-8 and out of the NCAA Tourney conversation.

Arkansas has a solid RPI, but at 13-8, 3-6, they need some wins. Georgia comes to town this week. A win over UGA could get Arkansas in the conversation.

Missouri sucks.

Why would you say that? We already have to go on the road against a ranked team before the biggest game in program history. If that isn't a loss waiting to happen I don't know what is. Add karma onto it.

Missouri sucks.

More like they are 1 dimensional. They have multiple deep threats and if all get hot in any game they can pull the upset. They lead the Vols till late in the 2nd and have given others a run for their money.

Arkansas women are like Bert in football. Lots of close losses that could turn to wins at the end of the season. Keep in mind the SEC WBB tourney is in Little Rock this year so expect them to upset somebody late in the season.

Kentucky is in purgatory.

: kige :

Cats have lost 2 key players to broken legs this season. One was their inside game with the 6'6" russian chick. The second was Janee in the South Carolina game. With them getting 2 back late in the season from injuries - Goss and Sidney - they may find their way out of purgatory.

Congrats to the Cocks for winning and for sending 4 buses to Athens for a weekday game!

Georgia, for as much history and a Top 25 ranking, that attendance was not good!

Good point..

Personally, I think it's going to take A LOT to get Dawn Staley out of Columbia now. She's entrenched in the community, she'll get a big raise after this season most likely, her contract has been extended for another 5 years, she loves Columbia, Columbia LOVES her.. She's a rock star here.

Ohio State came after Dawn HARD a few years ago. Just to prove how much she means to USC.. the GOVERNOR of the state of SC wrote a letter to Dawn pleading her to stay. Our governor is a clemson fan/alum.

Dawn also turned down her alma mater, Virginia. Dawn is building something great here. She wants to do at SC what Summitt did at UT or Auriemma is doing at UCONN. She has the support of the Board Of Trustees in a way that's uncommon for a women's basketball coach in a football focused athletic department. It would take something more than money to get Dawn to leave Columbia. Dawn isn't old, but I don't think she's young enough to just leave and start over at another school. She wants to join the greats of the game and that can only happen with longevity at one school.

With that being said, I think Nikki Caldwell is a GREAT coach for LSU. She will get that program back on track... all she has to do is get into Texas. That state is a GOLD MINE for high school women's basketball players.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I remember hearing that when we hired her Hyman and Co. made the decision to pay her close to, if not as much, as Darrin Horn? Horn was new too so it's not like it was too terribly much.. but the idea that we would pay her as much as our men's coach meant something.

Wow, we're a 14.5 point underdog in this game. I've read that uconn is a really tough place to play, and they recently had the nation's longest home winning streak of over 90 games.

Hopefully we'll do well.
