For those unfamiliar, this is not your normal homecoming creampuff matchup because so much surrounds it. ETSU (East Tennessee State University) has restarted its football program (it was axed in 03) and Coach Fulmer is helping them get it going as a special assistant (basically fundraiser in chief and IIRC he helped with the logistics of restarting their program and such).

ETSU will not only get major exposure in the area, which leads to exposure, support, and $$ from local sources, but will also get a nice payday which they need. Even though they'll very likely be over matched, I think this is a great move to help out ETSU.

FWIW, depending on who you ask we only have 1 or 2 matchups scheduled that year. This is obviously a tentative arrangement but I hope it sticks.

I wish LSU would only play in-state schools for their creampuff games. Instead we give millions to Towson and Sam Houston State.

As a Tennessean I am happy to see this happening.

Having said that, this will be a massacre for the ages.

For the states that can, they should make a rule that all FCS games must be against instate competition. LA has enough teams. Or at least limit it to the region.

Yeah, the in-state schools made a fuss about this and we have since scheduled in-state schools almost exclusively as our FCS opponent.

Clemson usually gets PC and Furman. We've gotten Furman recently but we put Wofford on there a good number of times. Last few years we've also hosted CCU, the Citadel, and SC State. (some of which we used to not have the best relationships with)

I am too. This is really good for ETSU in many respects.

What's bad for ETSU is this group of freshmen will be seniors. That said, I've watched several crempuff games under Jones, even non-creampuff's that just got out of hand and I've noticed he tends to go no higher than 45 points (or close to it) when it's a clear blowout. When we played Austin-Peay we could've named our score but we didn't do that. I like that way of thinking - no need to beat up the little the guy or pour salt in a wound.

Why don't you schedule some real teams for the non-con?

We usually play one in-state team every year. And we schedule them in both men's and women's basketball as well. Even the Lady Vols play UTC and boy has their home court proved deadly for us lately.

The only in-state team that is off-limits is Memphis and that's because they refuse to play us in both basketball and football. They want to play us in football only and Dave Hart won't cave on that. They have to agree to both sports or we won't play them.

Do you think scheduling these patsy in-state schools is going to help you win the East?
