I like Mike Alden, and think he's a good man. But weren't there some rumors about basketball coaches being reluctant to consider Mizzou because of him? If his reputation is that of a good administrator, but not necessarily a good boss who has the back of his employees... Perhaps that's why Loftin wanted a change, knowing the potential hires that lie ahead.

I wonder if another shoe is about to drop on a scandal (like the Frank Haith rumors) or if it's the cumulative effect of all the scandals and Bowen determined the buck stopped with Alden?

There some things here that don't meet the eye. This is too strange. To go from AD to some "leadership" position within Mizzou sounds like a cover for the "real" story.

How about Josh Kroenke. He will be able to bring in the money and he Is a Mizzou alum.

He ain't going to a "leadership" position with Mizzou. That all just has something to do with his annuities and his ability to draw on them or something. FWIW I think almost the same exact announcement was made when Loftin left A&M. I've heard that Alden is looking at a job with the NCAA but who knows. That's just a rumor I've heard more than once.

Reedus, I guess I abbreviated: From the Trib:

Alden plans to take a position as an instructor with the MU College of Education where he will participate in the Positive Coaching Program and higher education leadership courses. He said the College of Education, in concert with other campus partners, will be launching a Center for Global Service Learning Leadership.

Sorry Literalist. Mine probably came off harsh. I was actually agreeing with you that it's probably a cover for the real story, or just a cover. Tell me if this sounds familiar:

quote:

Loftin, 64, was named the 24th president of A&M in February 2010. In a press release sent out by the university on Friday, Loftin announced his intent to serve as a tenured professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the Dwight Look College of Engineering. Loftin also plans to establish an institute at A&M to will focus on advanced, state-of-the-art modeling and simulation in human behavioral modeling in terrorist organizations and the spread of diseases among human and animal populations.

“That being said, I do miss the opportunity to teach and do research — activities that have characterized my long career in higher education,” Loftin said in a prepared statement released Friday. “I look forward to teaching and mentoring ’my’ students and to leading multidisciplinary research teams in creating new knowledge and transforming that knowledge into useful applications.”

Well, we all know now that that plan didn't last long and I suspect that Alden's "plan" won't last long either. I wouldn't be shocked if there isn't something else in mind.

Reedus: *Bingo* !!

And a little bird (who should be in the know) said there's "some position in Texas he's after."

Isn't Rockie from Texas? I believe they were there when he took the Mizzou job, maybe at UTEP or somewhere similar?

Kind of a hint when Loftin said it would be "awkward" for Alden to be around when the new AD is hired. (Today's Tribune)

It sounds like they are trying to be nice and let him quit rather than be fired. I would think the BB team performance, low bowl ticket sells, and thousands of empty seats at Mizzou Arena were pretty much the final straw for him.

Was he reallt a good fund raiser. I thought that it was the opposite.

Matter article with some candidates.

I think right away you can scratch off the list Bjork and Babcock. Probably Del Conte or whoever at TCU. In reality, we'll probably never have heard of whoever they hire.

Have there been any rumors on who they might be talking to? STL radio keeps talking about some guy out of A&M who's an assistant AD there, had worked closely with Loftin in the move to the SEC, and is big into marketing/branding. Can't remember his name.
