Oddly enough, we've produced 9 astronauts, which I believe might be the most of any State school.

For politics probably...

Edward Terry Sanford - Supreme Court Justice
Howard Baker - Former Senate majority leader

The school has also produced 12 different US Senators, 22 different members of the HoR, 6 governers, and 7 foreign ambassadors to Switzerland, Germany, Egypt, Cyprus, Poland, and Serbia.

Authors

Cormac McCarthy, Kurt Vonnegut

Business

Charlie Ergen(Dish Network), Haslams(Pilot Oil), and Min Kao(GPS)

Depends on what you consider "distinguishing."

Sen. John C. Stennis is probably at the top of the Mississippi State list.

Rep. Sonny Montgomery is right up there, as well (Montgomery GI Bill).

Some others, depending on your persepctive: Toxey Haas (Mossy Oak), Hartley Peavey for the musicians, John Grisham.

Jesus, don't quit footballing, SEC.

These guys mostly suck, other than Cormac McCarthy.

So, winner, Tennessee I guess.

Yep.

anyway your list is like your coach... it underperforms.

I could've listed a lot more BUT Cormac Mccarthy ALONE carries any list (Vonnegut isn't one to be ignored either) but I realize you just wanted to make that lame joke about our coach.

You're transparent as newly polished window glass.

Since this is a sports and perv board, Skip Bayless, Clay Travis, and Bettie Page.

Also, a bunch of other people in less distinguished fields like academics, business, and politics. Nobody cares about those.

I don't think she graduated but Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, is a pretty big deal.

and....Hugo Black certainly redeemed himself while serving on the U.S. Sup. Ct.

I'm going to assume "most distinguished" doesn't equate to biggest donors. Our big donors ($10M+) I highly doubt you'd know their names due to the fact they either own &/or are executives of companies in the oil and gas sector.

However, on the top of my head, here are some corporate execs/figure heads that are LSU alums.

Houston Astro's Owner (Co)
Waste Management CEO
Ducks Unlimited CEO
Crate & Barrel CEO
British Petroleum Vice President
H&R Block President of US Operations
Current House Majority Whip
James Carville
Shaquille ONeil
Dr. James Andrews
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse Founder
Raising Cane's Founder
President of Honduras (98-02)
Friends sitcom executive producer
Thomas Ryder (Board of Directors for Amazon, Virgin Mobile, previous CEO of Reader's Digest & Starwood Hotels)
