is advertising?
legal?
apparently you can give money to the college of your choice in the name of a prospective croot. If that croot doesn't go to your school, you get the money back.
What do you guys think of this?

Only a matter of time before the NCAA bans it. Interesting idea - monetizing the fans obsessed with high school boys.

A poster on another board said Clemson has sent them a cease and desist letter.

I guess the universities would have to sign an agreement with ubooster in order to use the funds? I don't know who would be dumb enough to do so. That could potentially set your program back several years if and when it is ruled on by the NCAA.

UBooster launched Jan. 5. Three days later, Clemson's general counsel Chip Hood sent a cease and desist letter to UBooster founder and CEO, Rob Morgan. The letter instructed UBooster to "immediately refrain from purportedly raising funds on behalf of Clemson University directly or indirectly."

To be fair to the radio stations, they're not going to turn down ad money regardless of how stupid and ill-advised the product.

Here is an article on another one, FanPay that indirectly pays players. The NCAA doesn't seem to dig it though.

I think below is the real issue Clemson had with it....
quote:
In the letter, Clemson also contended that UBooster's marketing approach spread confusing messages about Clemson's affiliation with UBooster. Patrick Sapp, the UBooster corporate brand ambassador, spoke at the website's launch event in Downtown Greenville. Sapp also serves as the director of development at Clemson.
