UF must have relinquished it before 85, as LSU was representing the SEC in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, 1985.

...In light of LSU's representation of the conference in their bowl game, and since LSU had the next best record in the SEC AND tied UF AT Gainesville, I award the 1984 SEC title to the LSU Tigers.

LSU SEC championships = 12

ALSO, I don't really have a problem with using the NCAA's new format for recognized national titles:

...it's not their old list of all the zillions of organizations. They've trimmed it down a bit, while still recognizing Alabama's pre-poll titles - which should stand, imo.

LSU NCAA recognized National Championships: 4

So Alabama, 13 titles is now the universally accepted number.

UF is only behind LSU because of SEC championships...our head to head almost makes that a wash
Easy now hoss. A 31-27 advantage doesnt come close to making up for 2 extra SEC titles

Random, but 18.6% of Tennessee's wins all-time are against Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

That's okay, 21% of Bama's wins have come against Vandy and State.

It happens. 26% of LSU's wins have come against State and Tulane.

You gotta love State, they're damn good dogs.

It is accepted by the NCAA, and that's good enough for me. That also eliminates that whole 1941 debacle.

...And I'm not talking about that time when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Yea, wasn't implying it meant anything, was just interesting.

Alabama's wins (win %)
MSU - 79 (81%)
Vandy - 61 (76%)
Tennessee - 52 (58%)
Ole Miss - 51 (84%)
LSU - 49 (65%)
Auburn - 43 (55%)

Sounds like a perfect way to eliminate it from our records too.

Yeah, head-to-head is impossible to untangle.

Mississippi is better than Florida, Florida is better than LSU, LSU is better than Mississippi.

Oh lawd. I'd put money on it that there's been a multitude of white out & blocks of erasers eaten by your record books.

Credibility isn't Bama's strong suit

Exhibit A

The NCAA has multiple "formats", and that's not the most prominent one.

your point is?

That LSU > Florida historically.

And everyone in the SEC besides Alabama and Tennessee, which is the point of this thread.

And with the rent-a-win we're getting from Florida basically every year now, we'll be leading the head-to-head very soon anyway.

When I google, "NCAA recognized football national championships" and that is, literally, the very first link on the results page, I would say it was most prominent.

Whatever, I find that one to be eminently valid.

I'd say definitely yes, they are #2, but they better start stepping it up or they will fall to 3 in a few years.
