We just don't have iconic, well done propaganda posters anymore. It's like we collectively (I mean the west) got cynical and shitty. Where are the anti-ISIS recruitment posters? The 'fight back the chechen' from the Russians?

For your amusement, here are some oldies. Some are iconic, some not. All are better than the PC shite we have now.

I am kind of glad propaganda isn't as effective as it used to be.

Believe it or not, your government does not know what's best for you.

The "Beat Back The Hun" poster from WWI is one that always sticks out in my mind.

THAT, Sir, IS propaganda! You should put it on a poster.

Well, because of the sheer number of outlets we have these days. Back in WWII, there were only 3: Radio, newspapers, and movies. Now there are several dozen outlets, and these outlets the people can talk back on unlike the radio and newspapers of old. People aren't going to typically fall for the bullshite propaganda of old and actually do some research.

That Soviet poster at the bottom of your OP is abject genius. The diverse racial makeup of The Union represented. The mother and child. Greyscale and Red.

The band U2, when they were still angry young men, went into that black, white, and red motif on their imagery (posters, t-shirts, buttons, etc.) for the War album. I remember being blown away by it. Then I realized that the Nazis had used those three colors a lot, as well. Much later I learned that Hitler himself defined black, white, and red as "the revered colors", citing their choice for the German flags of old. No doubt their effect on the human psyche, when implemented as propaganda, had something to do with his affinity and perceived "reverence".

I know that red was THE color of communism. I think they would have used it, anyway. If you want to make a poster to sway some human minds and you don't want to pay for 1024 colors, get yourself some white paper and some black ink and some red ink.

We still have effective propaganda, just not in poster form.

I think a lot of people do not see an inherent danger in ISIS and the other extremist groups. Yes, they may plant some bombs, do some damage here and there, but they are not a threat to the average person's life and livelihood. In WW2 you had the Nazi machine rolling through countries and taking what they wanted. Now if ISIS/Al-Queda/etc. started doing that in Europe or in the US, I think you would see it change some.

The artists and designers were talented–diabolically so in the case of the Nazi propagandists. The Nazi version of the swastika, for example, is probably the most powerful logo in all history. And posters such as the (in)famous "Ja", "Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer" and "Fuhrer Befel, Wir Folgen" are, both regrettably and undeniably, mesmerizing in their effect on the senses. A terrible shame that such graphic design talent was put to such abominable purposes.

I love the look of the nazi flag...dunno why but it really just looks cool and captivating. Hate that it was used and attached to such an evil regime.

To the OP, ww2 was a different animal compared to what we see today with ISIS. That was total war and required full support of everyone to win it...and people knew and saw that if we didn't win it then the world could change forever and not in a good way.

The outcome of that war dictated whether the western world would live the following 100 years in freedom or tyranny.

Every time you hear the state media label a group of warriors a bunch of terrorists for resisting imperialism then that is propaganda at its highest form.

It is more effective than ever.

Back then it took weeks if not months to develop a message and the deliver it to the masses.

Today it all it takes is one mouse click.
