He's one year into a 6 year deal. He will get at least 4 more years.

not sure if srs or terribad at fishing.
Sumlin has the most wins to start as an A&M coach ever. The only modern day coach that comes close to him success wise in the first 3 is RC and he took over for Saint Jackie when things were rolling.
Emory Bellard - 3-8, 5-6, 8-3
Tom Wilson - 4-2(took over midseason), 6-5, 4-7
Jackie Sherrill - 5-6, 5-1-1, 6-5
RC Slocum - 8-4, 9-3-1, 10-2
Dennis Franchione - 4-8, 7-5, 5-6
Mike Sherman - 4-8, 6-7, 9-4
Kevin Sumlin - 11-2, 9-4, 8-5
its also not like we didn't expect this past year to be a step back having to break in a new QB

He's won 1 fewer game than Miles over his three years in Aggieland, and he's done it with far less talent, and he's done it while recruiting at an elite level and building up the talent level of the program, and he just stole Chavis from LSU. I think he's doing okay.
Sumlin has also benefitted from playing Little Sisters of the Poor in non conference and still has 1 less win

LSU has had 14 players drafted with remaining eligibility the last two years & still spanked the ever living shite out Aggy afterwards.

So the consensus seems he has until 2016, seems fair since it has only been one year. It seems so much longer lol.
This year will be interesting either way

Let's put it this way, Suppose that on July 1st of 2012 I had posted the following:
"I know you guys are expecting A&M to get destroyed in the SEC, but I expect that they are going to win 28 games over the next three years and have at least one season with a national top 5 finish. Also, they will hire Chavis away from LSU after firing their DC for the poor performance of the defense."
I am not sure I have the creative faculties necessary to imagine the scorn and contempt such a post would have elicited. The only thing that would have mitigated your the scornful replies is that people would have considered the prediction too absurd to be taken seriously.

Holy shite. He's got a 7 year leash with A&M resources?

Imagine if I said A&M wouldn't win 10 games in 2013 after your GOAT season in 2012..see what I did there?

I fell like y'all need to make a trophy for this because it's the only SEC accomplishment you have right now.

The contract isn't an issue. I just found out this year most those deals don't pay till the end. Like the Broncos who offer fox and extension last year then showed him the door. Most football contracts have a clause where if the coach finds another job the original team , Broncos in this case are off the hook. Sumlin would be hired quickly as an OC

The premise of this thread is absurd. It's really astounding to me how flexible this site is in regards to its view of the coaching acumen of Sumlin, One minute, he's sure to take an NFL job. Next minute, he will probably get fired and go back to being an OC. It's a like a watching a special olympics tennis match, constantly expecting the volley to end, and constantly being amazed at the ability of the retards to keep the ball going from one court to the other.

I would have replied, "Well, then Johnny Football is going to be in the hospital and/or the defense is going to suck."
That's what I do. There.

I don't think Sumlin's deal works like that. He can buyout for 5 million or nothing (don't remember) after 2016. A&M has to pay the full contract out. Deal ends in 2019.

lol...you were never going to be able to match an aggy contract.

Actually the contract is definitely an issue for Sumlin. Essentially 2016 is the key year because the way his contract was structured it has clauses making it very expensive and difficult for either side to get out of it before then. A&M did this because they wanted to make sure they had Sumlin secured through the stadium rebuild and Sumlin did it for lots of guaranteed $$$. After 2016 it would still be expensive for A&M to drop Sumlin but not stupid expensive.
Essentially unless he craps the bed badly he has at least 2 more years. Right now he has good justification for the results (which haven't been terrible by any stretch, just not outstanding) due to the complete lack of defensive talent he inherited while going in to the SECW. He has done very well in recruiting but needs to close out this class strong. He is also 3-0 in Bowl games and hasn't lost an OOC game as a HC. Still, need to slay the SEC giants and most of all needs to stop losing at Kyle. People don't like to spend ridiculous amounts of money to go see your team lose at home.

Factoid Numero Five: Had we had a Top 60 Defense (not a wrecking crew, not a steel curtain, not an '85 Chicago, just a top half of the country defense) in 2012 and/or 2013 then we would have WON the SEC West.
If we'd had a Top 60 defense and NOT Kenny 'Trill' in 2014 then we would have competed for the SEC West and damned sure beaten the hell out of coonass college on Thanksgiving.
If we had a quarterback worth a damn we would have competed for a championship. Guess what? We didn't.
