TAMU is one of the best universities in the nation with excellent facilities, history and alum. that said since JFF he hasn't produced. When is he finally shown the door?

Chavis is an awesome addition however if he's unable to dominate this season and ags go 9-3 or worse do yall stick with him? No offense but even with chavis it still appears yall could lose to Auburn, Bama and possibly MSU/OM next season. Lsu should be an easy win for yall.

It seems like JFF and recruiting have kept him afloat.

Opinions?

He's won 1 fewer game than Miles over his three years in Aggieland, and he's done it with far less talent, and he's done it while recruiting at an elite level and building up the talent level of the program, and he just stole Chavis from LSU.

I think he's doing okay.

We gave Fran five years and his best season was 9-4 with a blowout bowl loss.

He is safe until at least 2016 provided there is no collapse next year. 8-4 or better next year or his seat is going to get red hot.

2016 is probably the make or break for him. He will have had enough time to produce.

Yes, we got real lucky our first year in the SEC. Sumlin introduced the SEC to the next and current "offense of the future". That was an advantage. The football gods sent us Johnny F. Football. Huge advantage. Arkansas and Auburn had terrible seasons in 2012 (= 2 more wins than we might have gotten otherwise). We went into this SEC transformation under the banner of a "100 Year Decision". We fully expected to be bottom feeders for 7 to 10 years before becoming competitive. We got lucky. No question about it.

That said I vote that we stay affixed to the "100 Year Decision" maxim. We aren't SUPPOSED to be competitive in the SECw yet. I say that Sumlin gets another 8-4 season. These things take time. This isn't tiddly winks. 9-3 next year would be great. At this point anything over .500 in the SEC is a bonus.

We can't let ourselves get crazy.

There's a vast difference between stealing and buying. Aggy believing that even if the contracts were identical he'd still be leaving LSU is a knee slapper for sure.

59-0 tells me all I need to know, but Aggy has lower expectations.

The fluke Auburn win stopped this past season from completely tanking.

He'll last through 2016, I reckon.

The one year since he's been gone?

Anyways, as much as everyone around here likes to ignore it, A&M finishing top 5 in the country after it's first year in the SEC, a year in which the overwhelming majority was that we'd be fighting for last place in the division, gave him a lot of slack. We knew this year was going to be a rebuilding type year (no Manziel, very young on defense), so 8-5 was expected. He could go 6-6 for two years before there would be legitimate firing discussions.

Wait, what?? All we've been hearing from your fans since that happened is that LSU can pay whatever they want to, they were just subtly pushing him out the door.

1) The Auburn win was no fluke. We were up 35-17 at halftime.

2) The Auburn win proved A LOT. Not many coaches anywhere could have pulled that off after 59-0. Major points for Sumlin.

3) Damn but ain't there A LOT of LSU people jumping on this thread, already?

You jumped out on Auburn only because they overlooked you.

Just like you jumped out early on BAMA in JFF's first season because they overlooked you.

Either Auburn or BAMA take you seriously from the outset, you're dead meat.

Moving into the toughest division of the toughest conference in cfb no one gave the aggies a chance. I don't consider what they have done great but he has kept them relevant, pulling upsets and recruiting well. With their new stadium and facilities I hope he doesn't get a D worth a shite.

Expectations are relatively high, even within the tough western division. I'd say 9-3 is a good baseline. But we like Sumlin, and he gets a few years to win the SEC.

Powerful words. And not weak ones.

Factoid Numero Five: Had we had a Top 60 Defense (not a wrecking crew, not a steel curtain, not an '85 Chicago, just a top half of the country defense) in 2012 and/or 2013 then we would have WON the SEC West.

If we'd had a Top 60 defense and NOT Kenny 'Trill' in 2014 then we would have competed for the SEC West and damned sure beaten the hell out of coonass college on Thanksgiving.

If we can get some D out of Chief then things might get real good real fast.
