And the state of Alabama has won 4 of the last 6 national titles and played for 5 of the last 6 with much less state talent.

You expected a sincere, honest answer from, well, anybody on this topic?

All things considered, they're running about even. Both were powerhouses for most of the 90s, with Florida having an edge. Bama took a sanctions-induced free-fall in the first 5-6 years of the new millennium, with occasional glimmers like that 10 win Fran managed in 2002 (and the Shula one if you want to ignore the forfeits.) Florida didn't have any dips until Zook came along, and even then, they weren't terrible, just mediocre. Then UF had a renaissance with Meyer, added two titles, and then collapsed, with one 11 win exception, had a terrible to mediocre stream of years under Muschamp. Meanwhile, Saban had a mediocre first year but has win 10+ games a year for seven years, clearly eclipsing UF.

Really, arguing about which one has been better is pointless. They're so even across the board, with each one taking the advantage in different important metrics, that the replies are almost always going to be based on the individual poster's prejudices.

Most people's memory is short -- esp. young people -- so UAT would win with most.
Throw in Bball and it has to be UF.
Throw in gymnastics and its a toss up

Agreed, though I think I can claim my original post to be rather uinbiased.

That being said, on top of your assessment we can also add "What is the significance of the time period since 1992"?

Between Alabama and Auburn the state of Alabama has won 3 of the last 5 National Titles and 4 of the last 5 SEC Titles, so, yep.

I just assumed you were referencing the expansion era. Even over and above that particular change, it (neatly enough) resulted in a national title immediately, thus helping clear the way for other conferences to get in on the idea.

Thanks to that a-hole :bang head:

I would say Florida, but Bama is very close. It is a debatable subject.

Good grief, I hope Mac rights the ship after that other guy sunk us.

Bama by a nose, mostly due to the incredible run they're on these last years. If we only go back to 2000 I'd give LSU a slight advantage over 'Bama and Florida fwiw.

As opposed to what, scoreboard wins? You claiming moral victories because you won the statistics?

No, he's saying it's dumb to not count games we won in 2007 and the earlier 2000s due to the NCAA
