Honestly, I was taken aback that Ole Miss had never won a conference championship in basketball. Even Vanderbilt has won a football conference championship.
I don't mean that as a shot at Ole Miss, I was just surprised. I decided the best thing I could do was go to their official university website and find out when their basketball program began and count from there. 1909...

Also something fairly interesting I noticed is that the "Big 6" in football is also the Big 6 in the aggregate rankings with basketball included.

Damn dude. You just scuttled the "SC's history sucks argument" your fellow Tigers like to throw around.

why the hell not?
the correct answer is 9 and 6 for us, so we should be 4th overall on the list.

Our basketball history is awful. Can we not just add tournament wins to make me feel better?

Because a conference tournament win is not a conference championship

The reason is tournament titles are not considered SEC championships per say. The regular season winner is the official conference champion and the tourney champion is the tourney champion (and gets the autobid).
The reason is because it's much easier to win a tournament than it is a regular season title.
Luck plays a much bigger faster in a short, single elimination tournament and a good, but not great, team can often go on a hot run for 4 games and win a conference tourney. Teams with overall losing records have won the tourney before for example.
It's statistically impossible to luck your way into a regular season basketball championship.

I'm an outspoken critic of our athletic program's lack of tangible results. We have a lot of success but never finish first. Mizzou is always winding up in 2nd or 3rd.
However, while the years comparison shows that USC has (slightly) more recent success, between the 2 sports:
South Carolina has 8 conference championships (2 football+6 basketball)
Mizzou has 30 conference championships (15 football+15 basketball)
Just had to defend my Tigers

We lived that Indy life for a while.
eta: Interestingly enough. We won a SoCon title that no one recognized (our school included) and had another ACC title that got stripped in '67 I believe.

It's alright, y'all can turn it around if you invest in the basketball program. You're building a new arena and you had a hell of a team a couple of years ago with Henderson, Holloway, etc. and won the SEC Tourney. The past is the past, but Ole Miss is perfectly capable of building a rspectable program.

That's true, I forgot about that
But shite, both USCe and Mizzou both need to win a new title and they've both been on the right path so cheers to that.

I'm excited for the new arena. I haven't looked at the plans, but hopefully the students will be closer to the floor. As it stands, the student section seems completely separate from the game and its hard to truly get energized in the Tad Pad. But they're doing some serious work on that construction. Can't wait for it to be done.
