Doesn't say what sport. Could include our S&D fiasco. Also, 20 schools? Arbitrary number. Might as well be 120 schools. They can't punish 20 schools. This will go away....

Typical CIYE trolling. I can't believe that a-hole actually asked to join this board.

I highly doubt the football program is the center of the investigation. NCAA is probably taking a hard look at the swimming and diving teams because of the whole Jack Bauerle ordeal involving a swimmer receiving a passing grade instead of an Incomplete for a course.

The CNN link is not about an NCAA investigation.
They are just citing other cases of confirmed & alleged academic fraud over the past 10 years or so to support their civil suit... In UGA's case it's citing the recent censure & suspension of our swimming coach as one example...
It's a class action lawsuit. They want as many people as possible in on it. That's why they cite so many schools...
It's just that UGA hatin' Cockinyourrear taking two completely different stories and merging them together trying to make UGA & AU look bad.
quote:
Two former athletes who took so-called paper classes at the University of North Carolina have filed a civil lawsuit against the school and the NCAA, claiming they represent hundreds of thousands of college athletes across the nation who are promised an education but don't get one.
quote:
Citing instances of alleged academic fraud at schools across the country, Hausfeld wrote that the "debacle, at one of the nation's finest public universities, could not have come as a surprise to the NCAA. It had ample warning, including empirical evidence from numerous academic experts, that many college athletes were not receiving a meaningful education, including -- disproportionately -- African-American college athletes in revenue-producing sports."

CIYE's obsession with UGA really is non-stop. What a putz.

I knew that the penalties were handed out last month, but until Dallas posted that it is a class action suit I was under the impression that there was another investigation coming.

Tyler did a much better job of summing it up in the SECRant thread....
quote:
It's a lawsuit based on not providing the academic opportunity expected in return for a student pledging to compete on the field for a given university. I believe the lawsuit spans from 1989 to 2013, IIRC from the cbs sports article I read earlier this AM. So, it stands to reason UGA is getting drug up in this for the Harrick fiasco (thanks Michael Adams!) and Auburn for Sociology and FSU for the tutors-taking-online-assignments-for-athletes, etc. This isn't a lawsuit that is going to expose any scandals we didn't already know about.
So, OP is full of shite.
