Georgia Should Be a Top 10 Program

Top 5 consistently.
This is a compliment to Georgia. They should be the dominant program in the East year in and year out. They have great recuitng grounds, resources, rabid fanbase, great university, academics, tradition, money - everything.
They should be really good at football, basketball, and baseball consistently.
I am an LSU fan and I feel that Georgia is in the better overall position than LSU.
I DO give them credit for SEC Championship Game appearances and they almost beat Alabama in 2012 and would have won the national title if they had. But, why don't we see them as a real national power?
Why are they not better in basketball with Atlanta right there?
2 Things:
1. They cannot make the jump from good to great.
2. Being "great" is much harder than any of us have any real appreciation for. If a school like Georgia can't make the jump, the rest of us need to be pretty happy over whatever success we do have.

Administrative apathy. I will say that I am encouraged by recent changes in the operations of the football program.

Both Georgia and LSU have done less with more than any other program in SEC history.
Hell, both Georgia and LSU are probably only "out done," in terms of doing less with more, on the national scale by Texas.

We finished 9th in the AP Poll

So it's that time of the offseason when we start talking about UGA hasn't done enough.

Wrong
Georgia finishes about where the recruiting says we should finish. We sometimes trend above that line and sometimes go below that line however we are never finishing number 1 and usually we are 4 or 5th best in the SEC in final recruiting rankings at best.
If we have had 6 str8 number 1 recruiting classes and then never managed to win a title I would agree.

When was the last time we finished one of the top 2 teams from the SEC in recruiting?

You know what I mean. I don't think that Georgia is considered a top 10 program just because it does not win championships consistently.
Not a criticism. Just saying that they should be right up there at the top overall. Why wouldn't Georgia be seen as equivalent to Ohio State or USC or Alabama in reputation?

Out of all the teams in the sec (besides lsu of course) I like Georgia the most. Beautiful atmospher in Athens similar to BR and a solid program with some great fans.
With that said I don't think I see richt leading Georgia to a playoff anytime soon, I just don't seem him having that killer instinct that most of the top coaches have

We haven't......
This year is the best we have done in comparison to our SEC brethren.

Nothing about Athens is similar to Baton Rogue. Are you serious?

Because all of these teams out recruit us. How is that a fair comparison. They have bigger brand names than Georgia.

Mouth breathers everywhere on this board today. So basically unless you're winning a natty at least once a decade, your school is a failure. Got it.

I'm not talking about your recruiting, specifically.
I'm talking about the embarrassing amount of resources at your disposal and the fact that you're far and away the most powerful school in an absurdly fertile recruiting area.
You have a frickton of money, a rabid and large fanbase, great facilities, a strong tradition, and a frickton of recruits around you. Figure it out.

Is LSU currently a Top 10 program?

I never said they were similar? I said I think they're both beautiful

Georgia's program has not been operated on a "need to win" basis like better programs have.
That involves way more than just coaching.

Not near as large as many other top teams...and we are consistenly middle of the pack when it comes to stadium noise....

True

So does Bama, Auburn, Ga Tech, Clemson, Florida, FSU, Tennessee, South Carolina....
Most of the population of GA are not UGA fans....\

Do you realize that Georgia is bordered by very powerful SEC schools that are closer to alot of these kids than Georgia is in Athens. Tallahassee could basically be South Georgia. Auburn could basically be West Georgia. I mean, we don't own all areas of Georgia. Just because the state as whole is fertile doesn't mean we own all rights to these kids. The competition in our backyard for these kids services is fierce. We will never have a fence around our state based on location alone.

The only thing keeping you down is excuse making fans.
If you want to win like Alabama, you can. You know it too.
