Interesting comments regarding Steele and Thompson, as well as some noncommittal comments on Kiffin's future. Sorry if from Germany, I did use the search function.

quote:

Is Lane Kiffin committed to Alabama for next season?

"All of our coaches at this time of year have opportunities. I think guys work hard so that they can get opportunities. So if there are better opportunities that serve them better professionally we are very supportive of our guys getting promotions. Doing those types of things, I can't say that right now because I know Lane is committed to us right now and he is doing the best he can to help us recruit and do the things that we need to do to have a better team next year. We are hopeful that that will continue."

quote:

What made Steele a good coach to you?

“Coach Steele really does a great job as a teacher, really does a good job with the players. I think he relates well with the players. He’s got a wealth of knowledge and experience in several different schemes and systems. He did a fantastic job for us, both as a coach, a teacher and a recruiter and was very, very professional in everything he does. He certainly handled this situation and this opportunity in a first-class way, and we certainly appreciate the great job that he did for us.”

Sounds like CNS really respects Steele. I've heard him mention in other interviews that Steele is a great teacher.

quote:

What’s your reaction to Thompson going across the state to Auburn?

We’ve had several opportunities and given Lance several opportunities through the years and this same circumstance has occurred several times before. I can’t really tell you why coaches do what they do, and I think the best thing you can do is ask him, not me. We’ll do the best we can to find the best replacement for him. They guy did a good job for us when he was with us and we wish him well. We’ve always wished him well. We’ll continue to try to have the best program we can have for our players and get the best teachers and coaches for our players.”

For those who don't know, there were rumors surrounding Thompson hooking up with coeds before leaving last time for UT. Same circumstance occurred several times before?

Doesn't sound like saban pushed him out the door.

On Thompson, no idea what to make of it... it is vague enough to imply several things.

On Kiffen, a pretty good response, it covers all bases.

Steele fits as a guy who moved on for a promotion.

I can not comment definitively in either direction, because I'm not some uber-insider.

However, if Saban did in fact push him out, do you think he would openly say as much to the media?

I certainly don't think he would say "you will have to ask him why he left".

The first sentence seems strange. Almost sounds like something Thompson did forced him out of his job there.

I'm just saying that listening to 'coach-speak' is not a good way to get a grasp on what happened. They are natural equivocators when they want to be.

........or it could be interpreted that saban has hired him several times and Thompson has left to go somewhere else every time.

Yeah but the rant knows better than Saban, right?

The differences in tone between the answers is interesting. Saban is gushing about Steele's coaching ability while giving a bland "he did a good job for us" comment with Thompson.

You could also interpret that Saban doesn't know why he always goes to our rival when he is told it would be in his best interest to leave.

All I took from this is Saban is coming back

This isn't gloat or anything, but it's pretty crazy that next season will be his 9th at Alabama. Not even sure Alabama fans could have predicted he'd be there THIS long. Consider me surprised.
